Came across this interesting tidbit from the 2008 recruiting board which speaks volumes about the quality of Northeast baseball:

The # 6 ranked collegiate team in the country Vanderbilt announced it's 2008 recruiting class and has landed the consensus best position player in New Jersey (Matt Marquis), Rhode Island (Ryan Westmoreland), Connecticut (Jason Esposito), and New York (Anthony Hewitt).

Hows that for an announcement for the Northeast Board??

Ryan Flaherty and Andrew Giobbi of Deering High in Portland, ME are already there. Flaherty is a solid pro prospect heading into his junior year after back to back quaity seasons. Giobbi got reasonable playing time between catcher, first and DH as a redshirt freshman last year. If the name Flaherty sounds familar, yes his dad is the Southern Maine coach.

Rawlings/Perfect Game just announced their Preseason All-American team. Here's the link:

http://www.perfectgame.org/stories/08_03_25_rawlings_pr...ams/all_america.aspx

Interesting to note that 99% of last years 1st, 2nd and 3rd team selections were chosen in the 2007 MLB draft.

Congratulations to the Northeast kids selected to this prestigious group:

1st team - Matt Marquis - NJ - Vanderbilt

2nd team - Quentin Miller - NJ - North Carolina

Jason Knapp - NJ - North Carolina

Jason Esposito - CT. - Vanderbilt

Anthony Hewitt - NY - Vanderbilt

3rd team - Zak Sinclair - Pa. - NC State
