After hearing the success of the Stevenson showcase last week, I sure hope this weeks turnout of college coaches at Plainfield isn't dependent on the Ol Jim Hall to do his dam* job with getting this info out. Thanks Jim...How much did this cost, again?

Traveldad, seems to be your mission to call out coaches over your last two posts?

Their were several top players who chose not to participate at Plainfield South today. I dont want to get into the whole travel thing again but their were over 100 college coaches/pro scouts in Plainfield today. Missed opportunity for these athletes in my opinion. $100 / 100+ scouts. Can you get that at a weekend tournament? I doubt it.

Maybe:

They were at a funeral, or
performing community service for the NHS, or
already have offers and one from a school which they would like to attend, or
have already verbally committed.

Why don't you provide some facts and we can figure it out together, instead of bombardiering each other with unsupported hypothesises.

I'm not going to provide you with names as I don't think that would be appropriate. I know the athletes I inquired about were at a travel tournament which is certainly their choice. I hope they got exposed to some college people down there that maybe wouldnt have seen them here but in the past the Stevenson and Plainfield South camps have helped get alot of kids scholarships over the years. I hate to see them get watered down is all. The theme in here that most people have agreed upon is that coaches (travel and HS) should do what is best for kids. If those kids get the exposure in the tournaments they are playing in this weekend then I commend their coaches. Most coaches have tried to work around those 2 camps in the past and I would hope they would continue in the future.

Why don't we see if the kids get scholly's or not. If their the top players in the area I'm sure they will. Do you think they will? So is it really about the kid risking not getting a scholly or that he didn't attend the showcase?

IMO the future for the top HS age baseball players in IL will be several elite club programs (well call them clubs like the hockey gusy do) playing in a PG-type spring league. Write it down.

Play Dog you definetly have an agenda, not sure why? However, I don't disagree with your assessment. The problem will be convincing players this is in their best interest. I can tell you this, I won't fight it. I would rather work with kids who are committed to the concept of team.

I dont mean now, but some already have offers. I meant lets see if the top players which were referenced get missed and don't get schollys. Lets put this in our followup file for next April after the two signing periods for the 09s.

They may very well still end up with scholarships but limiting your options isnt the best strategy.

In regards to Spring club play the one major obstacle will be finding fields to play on. Do you think the high schools will let them use their fields?

No but I think there would be more than enough college fields than would be required.

And I doubt the colleges would allow travel teams to play on their fields in the Spring

It is important for all of us to step out-side of our boxes once and a while and take a peek at whats happening in the world around us.
