Not trying to start a fight here, but as I watched the playoffs and World Series, I couldn't help but notice just how far both Chicago teams are from playing at the level of teams like the Phillies and Yankees. Maybe we all just got a large dose of reality..

I will say however, that at least Lou had the common sense to stay off the air after the year that the Cubs just had. dirol

Found myself driving by Johnnie's a couple of weeks ago and couldn't stop my car from turning into the parking lot. It was still awesome.

The aroma itself has been known to overpower and disable even the most rugged GPS devices...you're not alone!

Wood - I grew up in Elmwood Park and lived on a staple of Johnnie's, Russells and Shakey's pizza. But I have to tell you... That looks like an Italian Sausage there, so I have to ask.. Where's the beef? noidea

And don't forget the italian ice..

Oh my goodness...you're right JK! It was late...and I wasn't hungry!

The beef is right here...

And Shakey's Pizza...

...the mainstay out in the Pacific Northwest when I was growing up. Canadian bacon and pineapple by far their most popular pie. I'm guessing that one was not even on the menu in Elmwood Park...right?

And to your original point...both Chicago clubs have a ways to go before either is a true candidate to play in the final series.

I don't think there are many Chicago baseball fans who would argue that either of our teams are currently "World Series" level.

We will, however, endlessly argue over which Chicago team has the better manager, ballpark, fans, hot dogs, announcers, ushers, curse, farm system, scouts, beer vendors, neighborhood, uniforms, and sometimes even players.

Just curious rosy...with a good heave, and perhaps some tailwind, what is considered a good toss?

To the window or actually out the window?

Nope Woody, Can't say I remember hawaiian pizza being on the menu back then... Just cheese, pepperoni or sausage. And a bunch of graffiti-carved old wooden tables and chairs and, of course, a player piano.

And the beat-all from Johnnie's was the beef and sausage combo with sweet peppers.

Mmmmm mmmmm.

Why have a beef, when you can have a combo! (wet w/cheese)

Good beast may be the hardest find there is.

Expect that this adventure is going to be difficult. It is going to be hard. And expect to win.

The best halloween costume ever was a friend of mine who went to a party as Johnnie's Beef! He set up a mini Johnnie's in the dining room and fed the entire party beef, sausage, and lemon ice all night.

Sounds like your friend had a better time of it than I did on the Halloween I went as an old soup can full of bacon drippings.

I woke up the next morning under the hedge behind the garage staring at a paunchy possum with bad breath and having to listen to an off-melody murder of crows.
