quote: Hmmm... I don't think there's any such rule about mandatory play in the summer to make the team in the spring. HOWEVER, I think the reality is coaches can make cuts without explanations, so if he's saying show up or else, that may be a good indication that he has his own personal rules that he enforces.
I will tell you that we had a player cut from a winter sport team and the coach told him it was specifically because he did not participate during the summer. Parents went to the AD - end of story, boy was on the team. He still didn't play, but he was on the team.
I see nothing wrong with cutting a player for not showing up during the summer with few exceptions. If two players are close to equal in talent and everything but one shows up in the summer and the other doesn't, it would seem pretty easy to say who should be on the team and who shouldn't, right?
