Last night at the Seminole Slugfest in Elgin, we came across a rule that I've never seen before. The batter on the Seminoles showed bunt, then pulled back and swung, getting a base hit. The ump, however, called him automatically out. The opposing coach went nuts, claiming that he never heard that rule. I've only heard that used in softball because the bases are so close and that could kill somebody. Any thoughts on this?

What does the IHSA have to do with the Slugfest in Elgin or even instituting high school baseball rules?

The tournament was being run by IHSA rules, and the umpire claimed that the rule had just been recently created.

Some youth organizations do have that rule, but I have never heard of it in HS Baseball.

Currently, there is no rule that prohibits the slash bunt in the IHSA.

Or the National Federation of High School body NFHS which I believe is the organization responsible for making high school baseball rules that the IHSA currently follows.
