There is a lot of info on the board about positioning kids for schools after high school. What is the parent's role in looking for a program after Junior College.

I think the answermay be that there is none. You kind of leave it to the coach and thew kid. That is how it looks where my son goes. A good number of kids are moving to D1 programs, and others are going to good D3 schools to continue there career. Ir just seems like the whole process is very different.

This is probably appropriate since the "kids" are now 18,19, 20 year olds, have been off on their own, and the coaches are focused not only on winning, but moving the kids to good programs, therefore being more attractive to good high school players coming up. I would like to hear if anyone has some comments.

I'm still involved with my juco son's search for his next school. He has been very busy with school and practice so I have been helping him. Each coach is different to the extent that they get involved with finding their player's next school.

From personal experience, even though the coach can get you some mail and maybe a few phone calls, I suggest you be proactive the whole way. Take an afternoon to research what it is the student athlete wants to study in college and find a comparable baseball program, narrow the location down, narrow your budget down, and take that list to your head coach and let him know that those are the schools you are concentrating on. Don't leave it up to the coach to do the guesswork nor just accept the schools that he was able to get to contact you. Don't settle for what may seem to be the only options. Why leave your future up to someone else? Take advantage of your coach as a crutch to lean on for contact info, recommendations, video, etc...Follow up with the prospective school's coach about your interest. Take the guesswork out of everything. Try to get the school to believe that they need you. If you can get anything from this comment it should be this: Make a plan, have a sense of urgency, exhaust all options, earn a degree.

Redhawk - Try the Florida forums. There are plenty of discussions about the better JUCOs there.

And if you need any advice on how to work on your tan, JKennedy will be giving lessons this spring in Jacksonville. Cool
