Thank you to the Consulate General of Japan located at 737 North Michigan Avenue for providing the flag of Japan that will be used throughout the day at UIC Les Miller Field for the World Baseball Event featuring Team Japan.

I am told that several Japanese dignataries will be present for the opening ceremonies.

I brought this up last year and many people didn't like it but I will bring it up again. Caba, nice tournament put on by great people led by a great guy Enrico. My only question is the same, 16 or 17 teams from Illinois (25-30%0 add in the surrounding states and you have about 50% from close by. I didn't see any from Florida, East cobb this year, California, Texas. I know there is a lot to choose from but why are they not attracting some of the more competitive team. Yes I know there are some great teams there and I don't mean to slam anyone but every year it seeems to go down as far as over all talent and it seems like any team from Illinois is in. Just a thought.

line...They let everyone play...who qualifies.

Cali and FL and Texas teams don't send many teams.

The people in Crystal Lake can't do anything about that.

It is one of the best national tournaments (age group) around.

sorry been I just don't buy it as one of the best anymore. As I said well run yes, fun yes, I totally agree. I just think with that many local teams I don't think it is competitive as it once was, that is not saying that there are not good team in the tournament, it just seems like the competition goes down ever year. Again JMO. As far as the people in Crystal Lake not being able to do anything about the teams that don't come I am not sure, there must be some reason they go elsewhere now as they used to draw from all over.

CABA unofficial count: Illinois 20 teams,
Washington State 3, Iowa 1, Maryland 1, Michigan 2, Wisconsin 3, Ohio 3, Delaware 1, Puerto Rico 3, New Jersey 1, Missouri 4, Indiana 2, Connecticut 1, Japan 1, New York 1, Dakota 1.
Line's numbers are pretty correct. There are some excellent baseball teams, but some teams that may not be competetive. Supposedly all had to win qualifiers.
I strongly agree that many teams being able to add stud pitching and/or players just for this tournament means that whoever wins may not be the best teams, just the best recruiters.

CABA unnoficial count: Illinois 20, Washington 3, Iowa 1, Michigan 2, Maryland 1, Wisconsin 4, Ohio 3, Delaware 1, Puerto Rico 3, New Jersey 1, Missouri 4, Indiana 2, Connecticut 1, Japan 1, New York 1, Dakota 1.
I may be off a little on the count. Bottom line is Lineshot is pretty close. While everone has to "qualify", there are some teams who are average at best. There are also many excellent teams.
I agree the big problem is being able to bring in extra pitchers who may only play for your team during this tournament. I don't understand what that proves. That the coach is a good recruiter for CABA? Getting a team together for one tournament doesn't make sense to me either, but it is done all the time.
As long as the kids have fun, it is OK with me, and I hear it is a great tournament. My son is looking forward to it.
