A great day for Illinois when corruption at the highest level is rooted out. Congrats to soon to be former Gov. Rod Bigliarvich on his new jewelry. I wonder how he'll accessorize those bracelets.

"The breadth of corruption laid out in these charges is staggering," U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald said in a statement. "They allege that Blagojevich put a 'for sale' sign on the naming of a United States senator; involved himself personally in pay-to-play schemes with the urgency of a salesman meeting his annual sales target; and corruptly used his office in an effort to trample editorial voices of criticism."

Expect that this adventure is going to be difficult. It is going to be hard. And expect to win.

That would be great, as long as our do nothing Senator Dick Durbin isn't successful in petitioning the President for clemency for the jailed former Governor. The clemency campaign might be the most work he's done since he got elected. Nice message to the public...we politicians have to look out for each other...no partisan politics there!

It just seems that corruption reigns in this State. I remember back in the 60's how they would uncover dead people voting for Mayor Daley - multiple times. Apparently these guys think they are above the law.....

Some of those prisoners are going to like that hair dew of his!!!

Having in an interest in political shenanigans, I find fascinating the coincidence of the Trib filing for bankruptcy one day and Blogo getting arrested the next. Particularly in light of the allegations in the affidavit regarding the IFA and a $100 mil tax benny to the Cubs.

I can see the smile on Royko's face right now.

What's more fun, watching the "powerful" taking a fall, or Christmas shopping? I'll take the former. What a bunch of knuckleheads.

See the ball, Danny. Be the ball.

We can also stop worrying about Blago wasting all our money on his private jet taxi service from Chicago to Springfield. This transportation should be much cheaper. AND, it's a one-way trip:

I haven't lived in Illinois in a decade or so. Good to see that nothing has changed. Now if I was a Blago appointment, I may start squealing now to avoid the Holiday rush. They are going to investigate every person that got a job from Rudy and his Government. This is gonna be good.

Hustle never has a bad day.

In the news conference, the press asked the FBI special agent in charge if Illinois was the most corrupt state in the US, and the agent responded that although he didn't have enough knowledge on the other 49 to make that statement, he'd bet that Illinois is right up there, bucking for #1.

Illinois has to be right at the top considering this will be the 4th governor to serve time in the last 35 years: Kerner, Walker, Ryan and now Blagojevich.

As we near the end of 2008, we can probably look forward to our local radio stations running a "Top 100 Songs of 2008" list or even a "Top 100 Songs of All Time" list. We all know Freebird and Stairway to Heaven will be atop the latter!

This year, I think we should dedicate our Top Songs List (Top 10 only) to our corrupt, two-term (?) Governor Rod Blagoyo...Blogger, Blagervi...oh whatever.

Look for the 2-CD/DVD set to come out just in time for Christmas, featuring:

* All Ten Greatest Hits
* Videos
* Mug Shot Posters of Otto Kerner, Dan Walker and George Ryan...Rod's will be mailed at a later date.

The Tribune filed for bankruptcy protection. This form of bankruptcy has more to do with their ability to move around money and restructure their company to fix debt.

I did a lot of reading on our governor today. Sounds like an indictment is soon to follow. There are a lot of accusations of bribes, kickbacks, etc. My particular favorite is the one where the governor won't let the Tribune sell Wrigley Field unless they fired all the editorial writers who were calling for the governor's head.

Absolutley a new low for Illinois.

CPLZ,I do wonder how our esteemed Sen. Durbin feels today about his plea to pardon Geo Ryan? Oops!

Kudos to the editor of the Trib for holding the story so as to allow the investigation to continue. These day's that's a rarity.

.

I agree concerning the Tribune. Their editorial board has been riding hard on the Cook Co. Board...hopefully the mess at the county level will come under Mr. Fitzgerald's scope next.

ole
I think this is a great day for Illinois.

The only thing that could make me happier would be if Todd and Richie go down, too.

I thank God for Peter Fitzgerald, our former U.S. Senator....In an "It's A Wonderful Life" moment, can you imagine if he never was born? Or never decided to run for the Senate? If not for Peter, then Patrick (not related) would never have been assigned here. He's been a godsend for all of the good and decent people in this state. John Kass ranks right up there for me, too....not to mention Mike Royko, may he rest in peace. With a smile.

I am totally sick of the corruption in this state.....I hope they ALL get rooted out.

Gotwood!

Maybe a picture of Blago and Al Cappone together would be nice here! Don't they kind of look alike?

Well this is a ray of hope for Pontiac. Blagojevich, against all logic and advice of government officials, had been insisting on closing our prison and moving most inmates to a minimum security prison (Pontiac's is maximum security) that is not a facility nearly of the caliber. A government committee advised that it not be closed due to the fact there was no advantage to closing the prison and the impact to Pontiac would be devastating. The thought was that Blagojevich had a vendetta against our area's state representative, who tried and failed to take Secretary of State last election. He was singlehandedly making the decisions in our case, despite lacking any good reasons to do it.
