Objectivity my dear RRF8 is paramount in Tuzigoot's post.
Even a cursory look @ 08 results would point out that the cubs can really beat up on 3-4 NL teams. After that they are just over .500 VS the rest of the EXTREMELY WEAK NL teams.
The Sox (08 version), on the other hand have handled the NL, including 3-3 VS the NL's best cubbies and have managed to stay with the elite teams in baseball (except for Toronto).
All the ELITE teams, LA Angels,Boston,Tampa,Toronto and Minnesota, in the AL have faced big time competition within the premier MLB League while the cubs (6-9 VS the AL) have punished thier weak NL brethern.
The NL (.407 winning pct.VS the AL) World Series rep must not only face a superior team, they will have to overcome the AL's home field advantage.
The 05 Sox?....Can you say "AL SWEEP"?....cause that would be the result!
I'm hoping for a 1906 repeat in 2008 which would end all Chicago baseball argument's!

I forgot....the sox team of 05 was loaded with hall of famers. That team was so good that they kept it together for years afterward, winning several times. Whoops....I forgot....they knew it wasn't good enough so they tore it apart the next year.
Please......that team was the weakest team outside of the Twinkies in recent years to win it all.
They won...you gotta give them credit for that but we all know it was A HECK OF A LOT OF GOOD FORTUNE THAT DID IT.
Soxnole.....you are a knowledgable baseball guy but when it comes to the sox and The Cubs, you lose all your sense. There are NO ELITE teams in baseball these days. It's a crapshoot and any team that gets in could win it, even the fundamentally challenged white sox......if they manage to back in as it looks like the Twins (Elite?) are crashing and burning in their attempt at catching the fumbling sox.
The Cubs of 08 are clearly a better team than the 05 sox. Anyone with any objectivity or sense at all realizes that.

Tuzigoot, it's obvious you are a White Sox fan. A true Cubs fan like myself would know that Fukudome is riding the pine right now because he hasn't gotten a hit since July 1st and that DeRosa (who's having a career year) is now the RF with Fontenot and Cedeno getting more opportunities at 2B.

Tuzi....I'm with you on Dye. Among the least appreciated players in baseball the last few years.
But come on now about Pods and Rowand.....if they are all that then why did the sox brain trust let them go? Because they thought they would be better without them, right? Why else would they let them go? To get worse?

I just want to say that I find all of this Cubs vs Sox banter very childish, and I refuse to get drawn into it.... But IMO, the SOX SUCK! Yea, you heard me, uh-huh, what ya gonna do about it? Yea, That's right... THE SOX SUCK! na na na na na.
1) Sox 05 Champions of a sport where your team has been a laughingstock during your lifetime. 2) The American League is so far superior to the NL you must resort to falstaff jokes!

Im pretty sure that going through the playoffs and only losing 1 game isnt weak, and has nothing to do with good fortune. And back to back to back complete games in the playoffs is unheard of. That was one of the best pitching staffs baseball has ever seen. You cant be lucky and win 99 games. to me this seems like another cubs fan trying to bash the white sox for winning the WS.

It was nice while it lasted, wasn't it? The AL Central should have been there for the sox to take, but even though the Twinkies are playing more like goldfish than piranahs the sox will require good fortune just to get in the playoffs.
"One of the best pitching staffs baseball has ever seen." Give me a break on that one. They had a nice streak. Not a one of them will ever get a vote for the Hall of Fame.

The AL East might have four teams finish with a better over-all record than the White Sox. The AL Central is the weak division this year. The Cubs starting rotation is superior over the 05 Sox rotation. Now they just have to prove it in October. Will see!

How soon we forget that the last WhiteSox Championship team prior to 2005 was in 1917!
Talk about futility! A blind squirel finds a nut every now and then. If they do make the playoffs this year, they will all be watching the second round from their respective couches.
"Baseball was, is and always will be to me the best game in the world." Babe Ruth
The cubs definitely do not have nearly a good a bullpen as the sox did in 05. and the post is about the 05 sox and the 08 cubs, not about how each player is doing after that year. but its ok FBD maybe there will be a day in your lifetime where you see your favorite team celebrate after winning the world series.
and how is mark behrle over rated? the guy doesnt throw a pitch over 86 and still seems to baffle the best hitters in the game
