I posted the below in the California section. I have coaches call and email all the time so please feel free to do so. We could be of help. PG Staff can tell you were a legitimate program. Coach Brown, Can you tell me what college you are from? Please shoot an email to mike@sgvbaseball.com so I can pass along some information. I have seen your posts on various sections. Our website is http://www.sgvbaseball.com. I understand what MN-Mom is saying. We have been at tournaments where guys have come up to us and say they are looking at certain guys and wanted a roster. We would ask who they were with. They would say "We are looking for UC College" or Scouting. We know all the coaches in SoCal and most scouts so would tell the "guys" we will just send the roster to the coach. Michael Viera San Gabriel Valley Arsenal 626.308.0350

quote: If you have to lie to a player ( by creating a false hope that you have seen his talent at previous event and are interested in him ) inorder to get him to pay money to attend your camp,..... chances are your camp isn't worth his hard earned money.
Good camps and good programs dont need to create falsehoods to get players to attend.
JMHO
I haven't found a program yet that won't market to and give hope (often time false) to any player willing to attend and pay. How was your boy "found"? Who saw him? I'm guessing there we 2-300 boys at alot of your boys same events. They all deserved to be there? All camps are great when you're good, not so great when you're not. The truth is, as a college program we are always just looking for the diamond in the rough. The "rough" are often ignored. I'd imagine there isn't an organization out there without that philosophy...otherwise they wouldn't see all that many players or make enough $ to pay their coaches.

The above post by Mike Viera is legit. He runs an organization/teams that travel the entire country including our events, besides playing in one of baseball's biggest hotbeds. Surely you would want to get to know him because he could help you tremendously. You do not keep your affilation secret when dealing with coaches,do you?
All anyone wants here is for you to be honest. Once everyone understands that your true purpose is recruiting players, I think maybe I can speak for others, you would be welcome with open arms.
BTW, why wouldn't you contact MN-Mom. She owns the site and if you're a legitmate college coach she could let us all know without revealing the name of the college. Then we would all be more comfortable.
I already was not honest, and first impressions are very important. It most likely would not be wise to continue the particular discussion (especially after the warning from the other poster), however I have no problem just staying and talking baseball.

Staying and talking baseball is one thing and is welcomed,.... but soliciting under a false identity, under false pretenses, is not. P.S. You guessed wrong.

You didn't answer...you just skirted around my questions. I am just trying to learn how these "good programs" do it.

Sir,...I'm glad to be back from work to respond to your post. I started to post to you beforehand and was rushed. Didnt feel I could give you a fair/complete response if I was hurrying. I'm back now, with time to spare and will respond. As far as we can guess, my son's first serious look was at the Area Code tryout. There was no cost, ( except for gas and the homemade peanutbutter and jelly sandwiches he made. ) Top 10% you say? I doubt that very much. There was a wide variety of talent there from all ranges of the spectrum. My son did not make the final Chicago White Sox team. FYI: Area Code camps are open to anyone who would like to attend and are free. The invite tryouts are free as well. While there, my son was seen by colleges ( all levels ) and pro scouts. You say that you are trying to learn how " these good programs " do it. I gave you a suggestion in a previous post: SSmom: quote: You may have had better luck stating: Hi,.....I'm coach __________ from __________ college and we are holding our camp on _____________. If interested, please contact me and I will send you the details.
We have many college programs on the HSBBW who do just that and their information is welcomed. They are forthright and upfront. It usually works out well.
I'm not an expert by any means, but here are some ideas that I have gotten from what I consider " good programs ": Start with honesty. Run a legit camp/showcase. No false pretenses. No false promises. It can be done. It is done.
