Good job to Donavan, just witness Bowie beat Lamar 3-1. Well pitched game by both starters. First time I have seen Bowie play this year, Coach seems to be on top of the game, good baseball man. Lamar went to closer and could not pull it off.

nickpa,

Thanks for the kind words, and that was a big win for us. We have been letting those types of games slip away from us. Our 4 district losses have come by a combined 7 runs. We have not allowed more than 4 runs in any district game. Baserunning errors continue to kill us, but hopefully I took care of that this morning.

Should be a wild final 3 weeks in 6-5A.

Govols, are you the head coach at Bowie? Nice to see a school hire a baseball man! Base running hurt you twice that game(inning killers). It was to you benefit that Lamar went to Biery, nothing but straight heat, hitters looked better knowing they were going get nothing but fastballs. Good luck the rest of the way, what happen to Smiddy, hurt arm?

Another view was that the base runners were fooled by a good pick-off move.

I guess it depends on which side of the fence you are sitting on laugh

It was a good game. Bowie played well and earned the win. Congrats!

Yes, it was a good pick off move. Tristin did a nice job that night. Good kid, tell him to keep his chin up, don't let all the ___p outside the lines eat him up. I will be watching and rooting for him when he throws. Was his pitch count up? Or was it that Coach Sackett had to make a move to justify him sitting on the bucket? I saw Tristin run out to take the mound but got called back.

Tristan threw 64 pitches in his 5 innings.
Coach did not offer him an explanation for the decision. Tristan said that he (Tristan) felt that neither his fastball or slider were working for him that night and maybe coach saw the same thing.

Lamar faces another good team tonight playing Arlington High at Lamar.
These are always fun games for us since Tristan has a lot of friends on the team.

Tristen has a deceptive delivery to the plate. My baserunners went on first move, and even though I pointed out the hanging delivery and why he is doing it, it went in one ear and out the other.

Tristen did pitch a good game and that was what I expected. I saw him pitch against our JV last year and liked what I saw.

Nickpa, yes I am the head coach at Bowie, and yes, I am a baseball guy that coaches football because he has to. As a matter of fact, when the Lamar job came open a couple of years ago, I was VERY interested in getting it, but I had heard through the grapevine that they were just going to keep Coach Mascorro as head coach. When I heard that, I turned my attention toward the Bowie job and the rest is history.

The Arlington/Lamar game might be, in my opinion, the biggest game in district this year. We look forward to playing them tonight. It will be fun!

Tristan is doing an outstanding job for Lamar this year. Good for him!

Coltdad,

You are right, the Colts can take a big step toward the district title tonight with a win over the Vikes. Lamar will start Daniel Barr so it should be a pretty good pitching match-up. As for me, I am not sure who I would like to see win. We need to worry about beating Paschal tonight and whatever happens at Lamar...happens. If anything, I am more concerned with the game involving two of the teams chasing us, Martin at Seguin.

GoVols,
Question for you coach, can you turn in whatever scores you want to the paper. L.D. Bell & Martin played to a 7-7, tie game was stopped because you can't start a inning after 12am. In the DMN it shows on both team records that Martin won 7-5, Martin's web page shows Martin counting it as a win 7-7.

My point L.D. Bell fell out of the state polls because people see the DMN record for them being 20-3. They went from 4th to out of the top 10.

Doesn't the UIL or someone monitor scores, or can you just turn in whatever you want for non-district.

Both teams count it as a win in the FWST, can both coaches agree on it being a win. I see other teams in the paper with ties, help me out.

GoVols, Forgot to pont out why I asked you the question. You tied a team in a tourney in Houston, 7-7. Why not report it as a win.

ttech,
The UIL does not monitor scores. I guess we coaches work on the honor system in regards to non-district games. My opinion about the Martin/Bell game is the same as our game in Houston...it is a tie. Our record is officially 11-12-1. I guess I could look at the tournament tiebreaker and see what the scorebook says and count it as a win or a loss.

Now, as for district games that is a different story. Each district has its own guidelines, that vary from district to district.

nickpa,

Brandon Smiddy had Tommy John surgury in August and has not and will not play for us this season. He has signed to play at Vernon JC for the next 2 years.

...if I only had him...the kid you saw the other night against Lamar would be my #3 pitcher. Not a bad #3, you think?

Tuesday's scores

Bowie 4
Paschal 3
WP-Bennett
LP-Johnson
Bowie's Brad Calhoun hits a 3 run homer with 2 outs and a 3-2 count in the top of the six to erase a 2-0 deficit.

I have had a lot of wins in my coaching career, but this one is real special because of the way we battled back, and what was on the line. I love my boys.

Good win, Lefty looked good. Heard some good things about you from some old kids I used to coach that attended or attend your old school.
Love kids that throw from the wrong side.
Good luck.

I love those wrong siders too. If I can get my 1B's arm ready, we can go with 3 wrongsiders for the playoffs...if we get in that is!!!

Did not see standings, are you tied with Lamar? Hear wheels may be coming off at one school. Lost two of there better pitchers, and maybe more. Way too much politicing going on. Too bad that the love of the sport is not like it used to be. Played and coached in Calif, do not understand why there is not more support for baseball.

I have been visting this website for a little more than a year. Until these last few weeks I have seen little discussion about District 6-5A baseball. I am really happy to see the interest in the Arlington schools!
