Thank you to the guys at one of the 'no name' showcase companies (not in TX) for calling me 7 different times today. Each phone call, they asked to speak to a different player. Here's a quick list of the stories I was told:

1)He was a professional baseball scout. When I asked which team and territory, he said, "well, we do all of our own scouting". Sweet!

2)He said that their events are one of the best in the country and they are as well scouted as any in the country. Riiiiigggghhhhht. My kids will do PG showcases and legitimate showcase opportunities that are hosted by people I know/trust.

3)I asked the guy where he saw my players, and what he thought...I mean, I had to have a little fun once I figured out he was full of ****, right? Well, after a while he 'fessed up and said he got the info from a roster/tourney. Nice.

It didn't happen to be a scout by the name of Steve Bort with the Bergen Beach Future Prosects was it? Can anyone tell me if this guy is the real deal?

He use to have pretty good teams when no one else was doing the select ball thing. His teams are not very good anymore. He calls every player that he gets a phone number for.

Gotta call yesterday for my son, inviting him to a mid-Dec CA showcase at LA Dodger Stadium. Caller said he had a list to call. Said each name was on this list because a college recruiter had shown interest at a recent tournament. Guaranteed about 10-15 D-1 scouts to show. Did admit it was 'instructional', as that is a dead period for all scout contacts..... I checked the HSBW and found some old threads with mixed feelings about this event. Don't wanna give these folks free advertising by name, but have any of you vets out there heard of this thing? Supposedly first started in 2008....

So, what do you think? Maybe our sons were at the same tournament, huh?

By the way, has anyone received an invite to a California Area Code Instuctional Camp? It says it's put on by California Area Code Staff. Anyone have any info on this?

I have known this guy or I should say known of him since 2003-2004. Some where in that range a couple of my players went and signed up for a team he was taking to East Cobb and they both loved the guy and the team he put together as well. Really enjoyed themselves and to this day still talk about him.
Both ended up signing and playing for Texas. Probably not because they went but because they were good players.
