"Jimmy Gonzales, a San Antonio-based pro scout with the Washington Nationals, puts on an excellent annual showcase for high school juniors and seniors with about 75 MLB scouts and college coaches in attendance. Best of all, this showcase costs only $50. This year's showcase will be held Nov. 1 at St. Mary's University."

Anyone that has attended this event in the past - can you give me some type of schedule for the day, since there is nothing posted on the website?

My son participated 2 years ago and I believe he was done by early to mid-afternoon, but they may have changed up the schedule since then. As I recall, position players ran the 60, then threw from the IF/OF, then hit. Pitchers threw to catchers for quite a while and I think catchers' pop times were recorded after that. Hope this helps.

Heading to SA tomorrow and the weather should be perfect for the event. At least we get an extra hour to sleep with the 8 A.M. catcher show up time.

I thought it went well. As with any showcase, there is a lot of waiting around. There were quite a few scouts there from a number of pro teams and various colleges.

I heard one person complaining that there were way too many players there and that he wasn't impressed. But..I guess you can't please everyone.

I thought the day went as fast as possible. The only gripe I heard was for pitchers and their families that did not know that most pitchers were pitch only. The scouts stayed focused and even ate on the field with little delay as the players were stretching/ getting loose to run during this time. For the price and the exposure I don't see were anyone could gripe. I saw a lot of college coaches, pro scouts and the MLB scout also. Good job on the show and well worth the time and travel to be seen.

My son went as a pitcher only, I think there was at least 90 "pitchers" that threw in front of the scouts. I took pictures from the stands and I counted about 50 combined. It was limited for the pitchers as they were only allowed to throw 15 pitches, but with that many players and a full day of position players it is understandable.

As far as my sons experience. Before we left he received an offer from a school, before we got to the car one of the coaches sent an email "very impressed" and then a Cle Indians scout sent a questionnaire. We have since recieved a few more emails from colllege coaches that had never seen him throw and probably woudnt without attending this event in south Texas.

So the $50 and 1 hotel night worked out great for us.

I saw UT Pan Am, Cisco JC,St Mary's,Hill College,Kansas W,San Jose, and several with shirt emblams/mascots that I did not know. I counted the watchers that did not have MLB shirts on as college scouts as field access was limited. My main impression was that the scouts saw each individual player and did not split up just to speed the process up.

HaltomScout,
Sounds like it was definitely worth it for your son. Mine's a junior outfielder so I just hope he got on someone's radar.

Oh I forgot-- Monday my son got a brochure from Arizona State--just general camp invitation--but I was kidding him, see how you impressed them at J. Gonzalez showcase but he wasn't fooled by that.
