I have heard nothing. Coach McDougal has done a good job there and his assistant Coach Tickell is a very good assistant.

Well the last time I checked, there is no opening at UTA. The rumors of Rusty wanting the UTA job have been going around since February. The times that I have talked to the UTA coaches, they have assured me that they have job security. Now for how long, who knows. The only person that would have that answer is Pete Carlon the AD at UTA.

I promise you if there is a coaching change at UTA, I'll be one of the first to know about it.

Coach Tickell has left CV Heritage but no change with Coach McDougal. I have not heard of the UTA rumor.

Have heard the UTA rumor but agree with funneldrill,
don't believe they are in the market for a coach at this time.

Isn't Rusty going to be Jeffcoat's hitting coach at Texas Wesleyan?

Rather than spreading rumors why don't you ask Rusty and Alan. They are having a great time coaching DBAT 17 this summer and are doing a super job. I believe they have complied a 33-6-1 record.

Likewise with Coach Thomas SWAC, he did a great job of turning UTA around in 2008 after the lousy year they had in 2007. Hoping for even more success in 2009 for Coach Thomas and the UTA program.

Based on discussions with the parents from previous seasons, not only did UTA have a much better season in 2008, the players really enjoyed playing for the Coaching Staff.

I know they are recruiting the Metroplex very hard for 2009 graduates, they will have 22 seniors on the roster in 2009.

If players / parents have any questions about the program, let me know I will be glad to give them information from a parents perspective.

There was an assistant baseball job at UTA that closed on Friday. I have heard the Greer rumor, but that is about it...just rumors!

I guess the Greer rumor can be laid to rest.
Congrats to Coach Thomas, well deserved!

UT ARLINGTON SIGNS DARIN THOMAS TO THREE-YEAR CONTRACT EXTENSION

Thomas signs extension to remain head coach through 2010-2011 season

July 22, 2008

ARLINGTON, Texas - The University of Texas at Arlington and head baseball coach Darin Thomas have agreed on a contract extension that will keep Thomas with the Mavericks through 2010-2011, pending approval by The University of Texas System Board of Regents next month, Director of Athletics Pete Carlon announced.

Following Thomas' first season as the head coach in 2008, UT Arlington doubled its win total from the previous season finishing sixth in the Southland Conference while recording 26 victories.

The Mavericks' success in 2008 included wins over three nationally-ranked opponents (Oklahoma State, Texas, Texas A&M) and a win streak that captured 12 victories during a 14-game period. Freshman Michael Choice also had a breakthrough season landing on five Freshman All-American squads and earning Southland Conference Freshman of the Year honors.

In the classroom the Mavericks posted a team cumulative grade point average better than 3.0 in 2007-08, with 24 student-athletes named to the Athletic Director's Academic honor roll.

"We are very pleased that Darin Thomas has agreed to this new three-year contract to continue serving as our head baseball coach," Carlon said. "Because of Darin's leadership, public relations, coaching and administrative skills, our baseball program has made a dramatic turnaround, both on the field and in the classroom. He has certainly earned this new employment agreement."

Thomas was named the sixth head baseball coach in UT Arlington history on Nov. 15, 2007. Thomas will begin his ninth season on the UT Arlington baseball staff next season. He was an assistant coach for seven years before leading the squad as head coach in 2008.

This appears in the Texas Ranger section today, by Richard Durrett:

Briefly: Rusty Greer said he will be joining the coaching staff at Texas Wesleyan. ...
