What advice would you give to a future 2009 HS graduate who has just started playing select ball this summer.

The players and parents on our team have been doing this forever and are well beyond us. Baseball at this level seem more individually minded so information and advice does not flow freely and thats ok but I feel a little lost. My son seems fine and he is absolutely love playing at this level with guys who are dedicated to the game and love it as much as he does.

He is a very solid player. He is my son and naturally I am biased but feel very honest in saying he is the kind of player any school would be blessed to have. He is a team player all the way even if it means sacrificing personal glory.

He will not be going to a D1 school and we are fine with that. We are probably looking to start at JUCO level.

I am sure there is something he/we should be doing so that he is not just another face in the crowd.

I know it sounds cliche but.....

Play every game as if it were his last. If he leaves it all on the field day in and day out then his efforts will be recognized and rewarded.

Best of luck!

Ditto on GM's advice and I would add:

Be your son's support at all times and advocate. When the game is over and the glove is put aways it is that relationship and support that they will remember as much as they do the game.

Remind your son he will never know who is watching. Clean uniform, shirt tail tucked in, cap on straight and always hustle.
