Is it my failing memory or has the costs for some of these camps gone up pretty drastically!?

Some do seem to have gone up.

Just added to the above list: Univ. of Houston showcase on Nov. 9-11.

My memory may be failing me, but I don't remember this many schools holding showcase camps prior to the early signing date in the past. Am wondering if schools are still scrambling to find players and fill holes due to all the summer rain plus confusion and wait stemming from changes in NCAA rules.

if the colleges really want you you would not need to go to the camp. the camp is a $$ maker... the players/parents that typically go to these camps are players who can't play there (at that level) anyway - or just want to say they attended or were "invited."

scam.

Diablo, not necessarily true. My son attended camps or showcases at 4 of the above-listed schools and good things came from 2 of the 4 events.

Have to agree with Infield08-my son's first offer was from a school where he had attended their "Prospect Camp". They knew nothing of him before that and I found the info on the camp here on hsbbweb-it was his first to attend. They followed him for about a year after that and made an offer in July before his senior year.

Does anyone have an experience with TPX Top 96? We are thinking about attending Nov 24 and 25 in Katy. Would you recommend?

infield08 - unfort. you spent $$ at 4/4 events...

you think Rupp went to any of these camps and spent that kind of money? think Walker Kelly is? Beaven did?

Anyone get the point?

i would be willing to bet that rupp, kelly or beaven did spend money on some type of showcase or camp at some point in time. i bet that if you put their names in the pg cross checker that you would see them there. just about every camp that we have done was a positive experience with positive feedback from the coaches. money well spent imo...i'm with you infield08.

TXBB- no one said anything about PG... I am talking about players that get "invited" to go to a college camp because the coach there is "interested" in them.. happens to prob 80% of players that are there... but coaches could care less in all reality... they just want numbers at the camp...

Diablo,

There are many ways of going about this recruiting business as the parents on this board can attest too - one way works for one family and another way for another. I've seen the issue of attending camps argued on this board before....

Sometimes going to showcases does not work out to getting exposure due to various reasons - too many good players on the team for one to stand out, injuries and sometimes politics. The very top players such as the ones you mentioned don't have to worry about getting exposure so going to these camps is probably a waste of time and money for them.

My son attended the Tech camp his junior year and had an absolute blast. He loved meeting the Tech coaches, playing on their field, etc. but quickly realized that they had absolutely no interest in him. This camp was not a waste of time and money for us because he got good baseball instruction, saw the school, experienced Lubbock in the winter, had some interest from the other college coaches that were attending this camp, and saw where he was in the "pecking" order.

I personally know other players who have gotten offers from attending some of the camps on this list last year. My son got his offer from attending the camp at the school where he is now a freshman.

With the cost of showcases and camps, parents do have to do their homework and figure out what works best for their family and what schools their son is interested in attending. Target those schools - contact those coaches, go to those camps, and make unofficial visits to those schools to check them out.

Good luck to everybody!
