Finally, a little press coverage for our Trojans. Thanks Brandon!

Carr. Newman Smith runs streak to 10 wins

Carrollton Newman Smith remains one of the hottest teams in the area after knocking off Denton Ryan, 9-8, on Saturday in a nondistrict game. Ryan came into the game ranked No. 1 in SportsDay's Class 4A area rankings.

Newman Smith (18-9) got its 10th consecutive win, is 11-0 in District 8-5A and has clinched the district championship for the 17th time in 21 seasons.

Brandon George

Newman Smith 9
Denton Ryan 8

WP Rob Lindsey
LP Cody Railsback

Rob held them hitless thru 4, then the next sub's were getting hit/scored on.
Tim Matthews had another Dbl!!

Tim's pitching tonight against Creekview. He's got 102 strikeouts so far this season, sitting in 2nd place for all N. Texas!! He's a great kid, great pitcher!

Go Trojans!

sizzle,

No, I wouldn't say so...18-9 is season record

It did take a few games for the team to meld...And errors & egos are on going obstacles, unfortunately...

But the biggest difference, IMHO, is that 2 key players were back in the lineup as of mid March. One was still rehabbing from a broken wrist when we played the Frisco Tourny, & was only told he'd be running or DH. After a 2nd error early in one of the games, he was put in & never looked back! He even got Honorable Mention in the DMN last week for a grand Slam & then 3 run triple in the same week.

Smith has a strong tradition to uphold, usually going deep into the playoffs. I anticipate this year will be no different, maybe better.
