But the most effective pitcher on the night was Chris Ortmeier, who made his first appearance of the season. Ortmeier, a junior who had been rehabbing from shoulder surgery for more than a year, pitched two scoreless innings, allowing a hit with a strikeout and retiring six of the seven batters he faced.
