Had to laugh at Peter Gammons comments last night on the Red Sox/Yankees telecast.
Was talking about Dustin Pedroia, Red Sox second basemen. Just wondering how many teams would pass on a guy like that these days, high school or summer team.

Billy Ripken's defense could fill a highlight reel. Obviously he's overshadowed by his brother's exploits, but he had a pretty darned good career himself.

I didn't know the story. Follow this google search and read the article in the first link listed. You will see a picture of the card and read a pretty hilarious article about Billy's contribution to the Orioles.

Dustin Pedroia might not be the prototypical major league star when it comes to body type. However, he is very young and he has always been a star player whether it was high school or summer teams. He didn’t get recruited by Arizona State by being over looked as a high school player. He was a star in high school and on his summer team. A great scout, Doug McMillan (BBScout on hsbbw) was one of the first scouts to recognize his talent.

I played with Billy on 3 different minor league teams in the early 80's with the O's. I can tell you for sure, he is one if the craziest people I have ever been around. He was a great guy though. Loved to have fun!

Oh my goodness, even Billy himself would laugh to tell you he was a No Tool guy!

I've seen Danny pitch, his change up is nasty.
Good to see he has gotten a couple of call ups.
