well it's homecoming season again and as any mom who owns a glue gun knows- that means homecoming mums. while i was standing in a long line along with 50 other people, waiting to plop down good money on fake flowers, ribbon and plastic footballs, it reminded me as to why i love baseball season so much.
I have started a list- feel free to add as you like

WHY BASEBALL IS BETTER THAN FOOTBALL

1. there are no over priced homecoming flowers, over priced dance tickets, or "girlfriend drama".
2.it's a mind game, not just a hitting game. although occasionally the dugout does need to be emptied.
3.when i pay for private lessons, i see results. when i pay for girlfriend stuff, i'm just broke
4. there is nothing better than spending a beautiful day, fall or spring watching a good game.

5. You can socialize with good friends (from both sides) without missing anything on the field

6. Contestants can be amiable while still trying to best each other

1. If you lose the first one you always have a chance to even it up in the second one.
2. You don't have to be big and strong to play.
3. It's OK to avoid the collision.

BOTH!

Baseball - Tuesday nights in the late winter wrapped up in a blanket (thats when they lace 'em up here in Texas)...Coffee and Hot Chocolate have never tasted so good!

Football - Friday night under the lights...need I say more?

Edge: Football

Baseball - Looking into the dugout and seeing the pitcher with an ice pack after a solid outting

Football - Looking to the sidelines and seeing a player with an ice pack on his knee, indicating his night is over, and perhaps the season or career

Edge: Baseball

Baseball - In the spring, watching football players dress up to heckle the opposing pitchers and support his own baseball team

Football - In the fall, watching baseball players paint faces and yell and cheer, sometimes from the stands, sometimes from the field, supporting their football team

Edge: High School Sports!

My nephew plays both baseball and football for his HS, and truly loves both. He has had a great deal of pressure to quit football and focus on baseball, because that is where his "future" is. He had a great deal of stress last year as a Junior and his grades and on field productivity suffered. He received baseball offers from a couple schools, and declined them.

After school let out, he had a conversation with his parents and priest, and decided that his 'future' could wait, and that as a HS student, he could live for 'today'. After this conversation, he was at peace and was not playing and pressing because some coach from this place or that one was watching today. Furthermore, he could also enjoy his final football season without worry of injury, because in the end, he was doing what he loved and if 'His' plan was for his to continue one or the other (is a pretty good football player too) in college, then it would happen.

He is happy, healthy, getting A's in school and is Aces in my heart!

In the end, the time parents (or uncles) have with these kids is short and whatever is 'right', enjoy it.

Baseball was made for kids, and grown-ups only screw it up.

Without a doubt.

7. In baseball there's no band, drill team, cheerleaders or homecoming queen ceremonies.

8. Instead of a team of 50, 60, or 70+, baseball consists of a small number of guys that serve a purpose every game.
