January 29 is just the first official date that we can begin after school workouts. Tryout policies are set by individual districts. Ours for example says that we have to have 5 days of tryouts beginning Jan. 29. Other places make cuts during their athletic periods during the course of the fall and early spring. Depends by the school district's policies.

COME ON OP, EVALUATION BEGINS THE LAST DAY OF REGULAR SEASON...OF LAST YEAR.

It won't effect the scrimmage dates. The reason why the THSBCA asked the UiL to do this was so that we can finish our tryouts 2 days earlier so that we can have some team practices before we scrimmage. Plus, it lets us get those football players out there 2 days earlier!

Only if the football coach allows them to be out there.

In our situation the football athletic period is different from baseball. My football players come after school so they get the best of both worlds. They get their offseason strength and condidioning and their baseball.

PD I really don't think it will have an impact but it effects the parents minds that the UIL is starting early. What a marketing plot. However this is the first move in a long time. It could be the change for greater things in the future. By the way, Umps need the extra days to get ready for the pictures.
