Well today i FINALLY got to pitch in my first pro game. It was definately exciting. I was nervous as heck goin in. The fist pitch i was nervous as heck, i threw a fastball for strike on the inside corner. After that the newness wore off and the adrenaline kicked in. Pitched 2 innings 6 up 6 down, with 2K's. I was pleasantly surprised to do this good, the hitters are killin the ball for every team out here. I thought i'd be lucky to get out of 2 innings with only 1 or 2 runs scored. But i just stuck to the basics, keep the ball down, fastballs in and out and keep the hitters off balance with breaking balls and it seemed to work. Hopefully i can keep this up, just have to keep working.

Anyways, time to stop bragging, the other exciting thing this week, is i got my first actual paycheck, for the WHOPPING amount of 220 bucks! or... $191.11 after taxes! YES! however banks are closed on weekends so i have to cash it tommorrow. But besides that, all is well, it was only 115 today and It is tons of fun out here. I'll keep you posted!

i pitched against the Giants, their in first right now. And SORRY no loans at this point in time, i have to invest my money wisely now. BUT once i make it to the big leagues, MAYBE a loan or two to close friends and family...but we'll see, gotta make it there first!

AHSpitcher17 - Sounds like you are having a great time. Congratulations! I am really enjoying reading your posts and sharing them with my son. One of the kids that my son played with in high school was drafted into the Braves organization this year and his stories sound similar. I do have a question for you - does your team encourage you to sign up for classes this year at a local community college? If not, are they doing anything to help players become financially savvy or learn how to manage the 'business' end of baseball -- or at the very least, how to make creative meals out of Ramen??? Big Grin

URKMB- The TEAM doesnt really do anything like that, they just provide you with the money, its more up to you. Now on my part, i have both an agent and a financial advisor to help me with the monetary part of baseball. As far as college this year, its out of the question since im going to instructional league in October, but as far as next year, yes i will probably take some college classes. Hope that answers your question!

AHSpitcher17 ~

Just curious - how long have you had an agent and a financial advisor? Wondering when I might need to have one for my son. Thanks!!

Thanks everyone!

Tex- I will, i ate dinner with him tonight as a matter of fact. We have the same agent, Dave Stewart, he was in town telling us old stories about the MLB.

VPM- I've had an agent since the beginning of my junior year in high school, but as far as when you should have one, im not sure, the only advice i've ever heard about when to get an agent is, " when you need one, they'll find you"
But if it looks like your son will be drafted high, i would recommend looking into it, i know i would have been lost without my agent. They know a lot of the ins and outs of contracts that most people, even lawyers wouldnt know since the MLB has a bunch of clauses u can get included into your contract.

AHS - thanks for the clarification. Sounds like you are getting the right kind of counsel - from a professional, financial, and an academic perspective. Not trying to be too intrusive ( Smile), but from a players perspective, where is your focus at this point in the year?

as far as right now, my mind is on improving as much as possible every day. I know i need to work on my changeup more, since it is a very important pitch if i want to move up quickly. A fastball and curve combo will last me MAYBE to High A ball, where i can still be really effective, once your there or higher, you need a changeup or other pitch in order to move up from there. So as of right now, my main focus is on improving command and developing my changeup as much as possible, i could care less about the stats! not sure if that was what u were lookin for, but hope it helps.

Oh ya, almost forgot, i also want to help the team win the second half of the season to advance to the championship game where we play for a ring!
