Let me highlight an episode. The Blues Brothers were at the 8/3 game doing their show. They are from WI and as we were going into the stadium they were in the parking lot, being the bashful guy I am, I struck up a conversation and found out I had the same WI party attitude as they did. When all was said and done Mary and I were in the back seat of the Blues Brothers car when the made the entrance on to the field. As we passed the SI dugout I stuck my head out the window and yelled at Ryan.........the face I got in return was worth the trip. The car stopped the Blues Bros opened the doors for us and we sat on the hood of the car as they opened the show in front of 7000 screaming fans. There we were, on vaca to see our son play MILB baseball, and we on the field, on the jumbotron at his game, and part of the show. He was so freaked out that his teammates pulled the old bubble on the cap trick and it stayed there for 3 innings. rotlaugh

What a great story I can just see your son's face!!!!!!!! Smile
When I went to my sons game this week end all I did was drop my handburger into the lap of the roving instructor.

At the end of July we were in California, watching our younger son play baseball when we got a call from our older son,Jimmy, saying he'd been selected to play in the Future's game. That was the beginning of a dream-like experience. He plays Single A and we had no idea that he was being considered for the team.
Jimmy was given a hotel room with space for his family so we stayed at a first class hotel - quite a change from our usual Econo Lodge experience.
It seemed unreal to be walking in to the Giants ballpark to watch our son play baseball. We got to see him before the game and he was loving the experience. (An old baseball coach told him ten years ago to be sure to enjoy each experience because you never know when they will end)
(From a parent's standpoint, one of the great things about playing professionally is that you can talk to the players before a game while they sign autographs. We could never do that before.)
Jimmy got into the game in the 5th inning. He plays left field and his number is #25 and the World Jerseys were the same colours as the Giants. My husband later explained that there is another baseball player who usually stands in that same spot wearing number 25. Anyways, it was wonderful to see Jimmy there. It felt like we were in the midst of a dream and then Jimmy topped it off by hitting a home run during his one at bat.
The whole experience was incredible and it was especially so since the four of us could be together that evening, something that rarely happens these days.

cdnmom,

It's wonderful to hear your story. How exciting that your son hit a HR in his only at bat!

RZ,

I laughed all through your story, but your photos brought tears to my eyes - especially the one of Ryan signing autographs. I can only half imagine how it must feel to see your son in a Yankees uniform and signing autographs for young fans. RZ2 looks great!

I was due to leave Wednesday for Eugene, looking forward to seeing my son play as a pro in the company of the lovely Auntie Em.

And then came the phone call --- don't bother, Mom, I'm no longer on the team.

After the game tonight, three players were called to the middle of the clubhouse, with the 2nd baseman and 3rd baseman's promotions to Ft Wayne, the Low A club, announced. There stands my son, wondering if he's going to be asked to help them pack.

No, Aeden, you'll be going to High A, Lake Elsinore!

What a kick! Who knows what it means; he'd already been told not to try to figure out why the organization does what it does. But it's exciting all the same!

And yes, I changed the ticket. California, Here I Come!
