Can someone describe a typical year for a player in the minor leagues in terms of when the season starts and ends(assuming you sign quick), instructional league - who gets to go, when and where is it? What do you do in the off season? Do you have to get a job, can you go to school? Where do you live? When do you have to report in the spring?

Thanks - gsf

Spring training for the minors starts around March 5. Players can report early but not earlier than Feb. 20 or so. Roster assignments are posted the first week in April and the season starts about April 7. Play 144 games for long season with around 10 total days off. Season ends around Mid Sept. Fall instrux are by invitation only and usually involve 40 players for 3 weeks at the Spring training facility. If you do not get an assignment out in April, you may be invited to stay at "extended" Spring training for individualized attention. The next assignments are short season beginning around June 20. Your mandatory off season conditioning assignments initiate mid Oct.
Since your paycheck is from April 7 to the end of the season, an off season job is the only income you will have.
