As I understand "the rules" once a player attends his first day of college, MLB can not draft the player until he has completed his Junior year of college.....

QUESTION #1 -- Is this correct?

QUESTION #2 -- If this is correct, why was the Junior year designated as the "draft eligible" year instead of the senior year after the individual has rec'd a degree?

QUESTION #3 -- Is this for D1 only or all levels of NCAA?

the draft is in june and school is over by then. this is for all 4 year schools. also the player who is 21 yrs old and a jc player either year is eligable.

I think you might have meant a player who is 21 (no matter what year in a 4-year college) OR a juco player either 1st or 2nd year are eligible for the amateur draft.

As for why they chose the junior year ... perhaps because it is the one closest to 21 years old ??? Also of note, if a player will be 21 within 45 days of the draft (i.e., after the draft), he is also eligible.

A player that enters a four year school is not draft eligible again until he is 21 years old.

Typically, that is after the junior year.

But, it is the age of 21 that determines the eligibiity regardless of the college classification.

A 21 year old college sophomore at a four year school is draft eligible.

FO, according to the folowing link, the criterion is 21 years old or completed junior year. And apparently DIII students can be drafted earlier, according to Wikipedia.

That is correct, you don't have to be 21 if you are have completed your junior or senior year.

It is a frequently misunderstood concept.

Draft eligeable is age 21 in the year of the June Amateur draft.

If you were a RS-Fr (2007) and are 21 (DoB June 16, 1986), you could have been drafted in June 2007 (and one was!)

Going back to FBM's post, I don't think it's 21 in the year of the draft. As FBM said, a player has to turn 21 within 45 days of the draft. Or at least that's always been my understanding of the rule.
