If a player is drafted in the lower rounds, and feels that he maybe considered "low on totem pole" compared to high draft choices. Are there advantages or disadvantages in signing with with an independent league team and not going with the MLB organization?
I read the thread from "bonus babies" and it made me wonder?

From what guys have told me about Indy leagues is

Independant Leagues are even mroe cut throat then the minors, you could be on a roster on day and off it the next, either released or traded the next, there is no guarentee no matter who you are.

With this knowledge IMO you're chacnes are worse then being lower on the totem pole in an Organization.

Just my thoughts on the subject though

Speaking from experience, if a high schooler is drafted in the lower rounds, probably the best way to go is to go to a community college for 2 years, and try an improve your draft status for the future.

The problem with going to the Indy leagues straight out of high school, is if you fail there, your are both unavailable for both college baseball, AND you cannot be taken in a future MLB amateur draft. Your only avenue would then be to sign as a minor league free agent, which I have to say, your not going to get a signing bonus, and based on that, the organization isn't going to give you alot of chances, because they have little money invested in you.

just, my 2 cents, but I would stick with going to college for at least 2 years.
