Filmmakers pour 'Sugar' on Quad Cities
Movie examines foreign player learning culture, baseball in Midwest

Looks interesting, especially if son gets to play in MWL. I enjoyed a game or two at QC a few years ago. Nice ballpark by the river.

...sometimes a little too close to the river Smile

There was a reference once to the baseball gods being pleased or upset by something that happened in a Royals game two years ago. A friend responded, "Please. The baseball gods are not watching the Royals." -- Sam Mellinger, KC Royals writer/blogger

No one else is, either.

I'm really looking forward to seeing this movie. I'll be going next week I think.

Baseball, it is said, is only a game. True.

I am looking forward to it as well, the baseball field is in our home town!

Listened to a radio interview with the director or producer of the movie. (can't remember which)

A big part of the casting revolved around whether or not the actors could actually swing a bat with good/proper mechanics! Was an interesting interview.

A lot of locals got into the movie as part of the crowd at the stadium as well.

Looking forward to the movie as well.

Everyone told us, wait until son gets to Davenport, you are going to love it.

But more than that is understanding what BA has written up, how these kids come to a strange place and try to find a way to survive.

Sorry but I know this is hugely politically incorrect but I hate this whole idea. Maybe they could follow up with a movie about how American boys get the shaft by the MLB bringing other country's boys in to play the great American game, eliminating our sons' opportunities. There's not that many opportunities out there in the first place.

Baseball as most of us know it ends at the major league level. I love watching anything but.

baseballregie - Politically incorrect?? agree While you are entitled to your opinion, your comment sounds like comments that came out of Canada that the NHL was drafting AMERICANS and EUROPEANS who were taking the roster spots that CANADIAN players were "entitled" to because of their country of Birth!! Remember AMERICANS and EUROPEANS don't have ANY talent in Hockey so why would the NHL sign them?????

I guess that MLB teams should not sign talented players if they are not AMERICAN citizens. Maybe we should also put limits on the number of Afican American players on each team too!

If an American kid is good at baseball he will have MANY opportunities to show it no matter HOW many players are brought in from other countries.

That is the great thing about sports. If you have talent and can play you will get the opportunity, especially in the business of professional sports. Now its what a player DOES with his opportunities that makes or breaks him. That holds for ANY player no matter what nationality they come from.

I guess you would have the same opinion about the guy who has less knowledge than you and who does less work than you, but gets promoted while you are layed off, because he lives in the same neighborhood as your boss.
