Hey folks,

I received a PM from one of the HSBBW members today asking about my son who was recently placed on the minor league DL. Frown Our sons were both drafted this year and are playing in the NY-Penn League. The reach-out reminded me just what a great site we have here and the community that has been developed among its members. I joined way back in 2001 when my son was just entering HS and had been an active participant until a few years ago. Life got busy, what can I say. But I’ve missed the “team” and hopefully will get back into the habit of checking in with the HSBBW more often. Smile

I posted a few times earlier in the summer after son was drafted and again when he experienced his first pro appearance. Since then he has had a grand time, playing across the northeast part of the country. He’s made some great friends, worked very hard, and loved every minute. The baseball has been successful too which makes everything even sweeter. But here is the rest of the story....

Eric’s season ended a bit early, just as things were looking very promising. According to his teammate holding the radar gun, Eric threw a pitch that went to the plate at 92 mph and returned back at him at 98! Eek Thank goodness the story is not as bad as it could have been. The ball grazed the back of his pitching hand and broke it. Frown BUT, he was very lucky as it is a minor fracture. He has a small hand cast for about 3 weeks, then will move to a soft cast for a few more and then should be good to go when they start throwing again after the winter break.

And there is another silver lining. Cool Son was able to return home early and will go back to school for the Fall quarter and finish his college degree. He was only 1 course shy when he was drafted and will now graduate in December, BS in Business Finance. clever Parents are very happy about this part of the story! greenjump

So thanks again to the kind HSBBW member who wished son a speedy recovery and encouraged me to post “the rest of the story”. Smile I promise to get back here more often and share tips from son’s HS and College experience.

Regards,
RHP05Parent
(05, I guess its way past time for a new HSBBW name!)

Thanks so much for the update! I'm sorry about your son's injury but it sounds like everything is going to turn out okay. What a blessing that he did not get hit in the head! Early congratulations to him on his graduation. That is a wonderful accomplishment. And best wishes for a full recovery!

RHP,
From one parent to another, I know about being on the DL. Frown
I am a big believer that things happen for a reason, best of luck to him towards getting that degree!

Thank you all. With baseball, anything can happen and often does. We try not to dwell on what was or could have been, but to look forward to what's next? Smile Getting his degree will be terrific. Being healthy and ready for spring training ... priceless! Big Grin

Eric was doing great, I was wondering why he was put on the DL.

Great news on his degree and best wishes for his speedy recovery.
