Players being morons about money is nothing new, just look how many hs 1 rounders recently in drug rehab, or blowing their bonus on cars, drugs and strippers.
There have been agents that blown their client's money on the same too

90% of these kids don't have agents, don't know what an agent / advisor can do for them (& the family), or the families try to "run the kids business" (mistake).
I disagree. I give more credit than you do to the parents and players. They are much more knowledgeable than you give them credit. Most are very informed about agents and advisors and if they select not to use an agent it is most probably based on information ---NOT--- the lack of information. While my son does have an agent (and my blessing on his agent) I disagree that it is a mistake for parents to help their sons with their financial matters. I can’t think of a more trustworthy person than a parent to look out for their son’s interest. I find it humorous that parent were more than capable to handle all the financial challenges without an agent though “T” ball, little league, high school baseball , summer ball, showcases, the expensive college years and suddenly they don’t have a clue about how to handle these new found finances -----

Fungo, Why don't we give PSM a chance to tell us what an advisor/agent can do for our baseball players, since he seems to think most parents are clueless.
Barring negotiations of course as they are in violation of NCAA rules.

Acutally, most agents don't handle player's finances, nor should they. It is a conflict of interests. If you are a good agent and a ****** money manager, you might get fired. Or on the flip side, if you are a good money manager and a ****** agent, a player may keep you. In the minor leagues, agents can't do mucy except provide the player with equipment, find out where he stands with the organization, and possibly, if he has the contacts, negotiate winter ball jobs. But all in all, i guess they are needed in the game, but you have to be careful. There are a lot of Tom, Dick and Harry's out there. There are a select few who are really reputable. Do you homework on these guys, lots of snakes in the grass.
