Interesting article from USA Today about 3 young men in the Tampa Bay organization ...understand when the one young man was finally called up, the powers that be on the field staff had a serious chat with him (apparently about his decorum and press comments) ... 3 up and coming Devil Rays

What a shame. I hope each of them learned a lesson and will be better and stronger as a result of it. They have the potential to become great major league players. But they will have to learn discipline and control. And as one of them said and what, I think, each of them realize is that nothing or nobody is holding them back, but themselves.

It is really sad to see young men with so much God-given talent struggle with their situations ... real or imagined. I would hope that they could take some lessons away from all this but unfortunately, perception is reality and if they perceive that they are getting a raw deal, then they believe it. Just a shame with so many young men who wish they had half the talent and opportunities and were still in the game that these guys are having these kind of non-game troubles.

Maybe we should force them to all rent and watch "Bull Durham", where Kevin Costner's Crash Craddock character teaches Nuke Laloosh the key cliches to use with reporters in order to keep himself out of hot water.

FBM...I believe that they will get it together -at least Upton and Young. Someone will step in and set them straight. Too much talent to let it go down the tubes. Dukes' heart may not be in baseball. If it is not, hopefully he will find it in football.

I hope you are right. And I would hope that Delmon's big brother might have a sit down with his little brother to clarify some things

I think more than cliches, they need to learn some humility. Yes, they are great talents but they have done nothing to merit their attitudes.
Dukes made a comment about these things following him. What a joke. They are not following him or happening to him. He is the sole cause of it all.
Mel Gibson's stunt was stupid and so are these kids. They need to grow up, keep their mouths shut, be patient and quit putting theirselves in these situations.

You spend a good piece of your life gripping a baseball, and in the end it turns out that it was the other way around all the time. ~Jim Bouton, Ball Four, 1970

I think that this happens often when the player forgets the game he played for nothing and excelled at ( and treated like an exceptional talent) as a young boy now becomes his job. Things change.
As a parent, the greatest thing that you can do for your player is teach him respect for the game, respect for coaches, managers, officials, team mates, media, himself, fans, what's acceptable behavior, independence as they grow up and humilty.
Without that, all the talent, lessons, showcases, tournaments, being drafted with or without a great bonus, will get you no where.
