Yes he WAS! And, even admittedly minus his best stuff, gave up one unearned run in seven innings. Absolutely remarkable! clap

Is this heaven?...

Another great outing for Zach! Great job! applaude

ESPN had Zach with 0 ER. Don't know if it was a mistake on their part or not but 1 ER in 7 IP is outstanding.

tasmit ...

MLB also credits Zach with one unearned run. Here is a statement from the Rockies' story on MLB:

Colorado stopped Duke's scoreless-innings streak at 22 when it tallied in the top of the sixth. Holliday singled and came around to score on a fielder's choice coupled with an error by shortstop Wilson.

I totally agree that even one earned run is impressive, but this is even more so.

Duke Seems to Be Slam Dunk

Zach Duke seems like a name worth learning and remembering. A 22-year-old left-handed rookie, Zach has started four games for Pittsburgh and has a 3-0 record and 0.93 earned run average. It's early in his career, but that's an impressive stretch in any part of anyone's career, let alone the start of it.

He has allowed one run (none earned) in his last three starts covering 22 innings, and he has pitched seven or eight innings in each start.

What happened?
I am checking the game online and see Zach only went 2 inn.
Was it related to the fact the game was delayed due to rain?

Zach went 2 innings, 2 hits, no runs, 1 intentional walk, 1 K, 29 pitches. 1 baserunner in the 1st inning (a single), 2 baserunners in the 2nd including the intentional walk. Sounds like another very good start, but I hope he wasn't hurt!?!? I know a couple of HSBB Websters were at the game tonight, so hopefully they will fill us in later tonight...

Bummer!
Rained like **** before the game, delayed start. Then the skies opened up again for 30 minute delay, lightening, thunder, the whole nine yards!
Big and I had enough!
Plus, the humidity was not visitor friendly (for me either and I live here).
We rushed home to finish the game on TV, no Zach. I am assuming due to delays, both pitchers came out.

OK, I just read the write up on Yahoo!
Rain delay to start the game (42 min). After the 2nd inning, there was a second rain delay. After that delay, neither starting pitcher returned.
HIghlight in Yahoo!:
Zach now has pitched 24 SCORELESS innings!!!
Go Zach!

They just took Zach out in the ninth and he was still throwing in the low 90's. They say he is trying to be the first Pirate to become 4-0 to start his career in 35 years. Let's see, what Rookie pitcher went 4-0 for the Pirates in 1970???? Way to go Zach!
