Hi -

Anyone know anything about the Shockers Baseball Club out of Edmonds? Have a class of 2011 player and wondering if spending thousands of dollars is worth playing for the team?

Select summer baseball costs money no matter what the team.

Depends on the goals of the player whether to spend the money to play in college or be good enough to be drafted out of HS.

You have to play against the best to have those shots.

We have folks in our select organization who have played for years and have never paid one dime, according to them! They do it by fundraising and seeking out donations. I was told the best method is going door-to-door to businesses actually wearing the full uniform!

Believe, plan, do.

i have in fact played for the shockers baseball club, i know from personal experience that the club itself is good, they do teach you alot about playing in the college level but if your thinking your going to get drafted right out of high school then dont play for this club. there gonna wanna try and sweet talk your kid into going to everett CC or edmonds CC. if your that good to get drafted outta HS play somewhere else, try the seattle stars, it would cost more but the level of competition is way better and there would be way way more scouts lookin at ya. the coaches them self arent that great. like i said they teach alot about college ball, and getting you in great physical shape but as far as making ur baseball skills better, you could find far better coaches on a high school or little league level

And what's wrong with Edmonds CC or Everett CC? Most kids would benefit from playing a couple of years in the NWAACC. First, you might actually get to play. Second, you get to play with wood. Granted it's not the PAC10, but the level of play is still pretty good. Take a look a UW and see just how many kids get recruited to play and hardly see any playing time until their Jr year. It's going to even be worse in the future with a 35 player roster limit. There were more kids drafted out of the NWAACC this year than the total of UW and WSU combined. As far as I'm concerned , the most important thing is to play for a summer team with good coaching, a good winter workout program and good kids. There are only only so many kids that can play for Taylor, Baden or the Stars. Believe me, I'm not promoting Shockers Baseball, but they have had a number of good kids go through their system over the years.

how do you determine that a 2011 is a draft prospect out of HS?---that is a long way away

What you want now is a team that you can develop with

You can't determine this early, regardless of how much parents want to believe his/her child is a potential major leaguer. The most important thing is to play where you will have fun, and perhaps play with your friends. Do it now, because it won't last much longer...
