Does anyone know where I can get information on "Junior State" teams? I believe it's similar to American Legion but I'm not sure.

Gosh, never heard of them. I'm curious 'cause I thought I knew it all. laugh Just kidding.
I only know of Babe Ruth, Legion and Connie Mack as far as select leagues go. Let's see what others have to say.

The only "Junior" organization that I've ever heard of is the Junior Baseball of Oregon.

chatThanks for the Responses so far. I Know some about J.B.O., Ive been involved with it for a number of years. Hopefully in the next couple of years it will be J.B.W.(Washington) also. We have teams in Vancouver and soon to be in the Camas/Washougal area. Most of the H.S.'s here use the American Legion program for their summer baseball. I had heard a rumor (3rd hand) that since the World Series for Am. L. was going to be in Corvallis Oregon, that some were combining to make an "All Star" team (s). If so, this leaves a lot of kids looking for some place to play. J.B.O. has the program but we have never pushed it at that age group, deferring to the H.S. programs. Cool

That rumor is true. Corvallis is the host of the 2004 World Series. I would invite all of you to come down. Even though Corvallis reached the WS last season, I don't really think they have the talent (this includes the returning college kids) to get there.

Does the American Legion World Series involve teams from all over the world, or just the US?

The organization is sponsored by veterans of American wars (WWI, Korean War, etc.). Therefore, it is just the USA.

I agree that the name is misleading. That's just the way us Americans are I guess. Almost every major tounament is a world series to us. The MLB World Series is appropriate cause there truely are players from all over the world in the league. One of the Mariners top prospect in the minors is an outfielder from Australia.

eagledad,

You can't just make up any all-star team for the American Legion programs. There are rules based on age and size of high school and where you live, though there can be some exceptions if the commissioners of the state waive the rules. They waived the rules one year for Corvallis, and not for North Salem, as an example. Not unlike gerrymandering for politics. So there should still be places to play. Many high school coaches keep the high school players together with this American Legion program. It means the competition may not be as high as with some other programs with elite players from a larger demographic area.
