Son is a 2011 catcher and thinking of going to this camp Nov 20-22. Has anyone gone before? Or had experience with any OSU camps.
Thanks for any info/opinions.

My son attended an OSU camp a couple years ago. I guess it was 2007, between their two championship seasons. It was winter, held in the Truax Center (an big indoor practice facility that football and baseball both use.)

The camp was well run. A lot of OSU players helped out. Dan Spencer was still with the Beavs, and he was pretty much in charge of the thing. Casey made an appearance, but wasn't all that involved.

It wasn't obvious that they were all that serious about recruiting from the camp. I think I do remember one catcher who had a strong arm who they pulled aside to talk to after one of the throw-down drills, but that was about it.

I second Rob's opinion, our son went down in 2008. It was for the fundraising aspect. Son picked up a few catching tips.

Rob, did your son learn anything at his camp?

PUHD - Actually, he did learn some useful stuff, but not really related to catching technique. Mitch Canham basically ran the catchers' portion of the camp. My son had a pretty lengthy conversation with Mitch about what it takes to get to his level.

Canham is really quite an impressive young man, and he became something of a role model for my son. They still keep in touch a little bit, mostly through a mutual friend who was OSU's Friday starter for its title years.
