Anyone know the normal weekend that the U holds its Summer Prospect Camp for juniors and seniors? I checked the website, but they only have winter stuff posted right now.

Compared with other camps, its pretty lame...huge variance in talent, from a half dozen legitimate prospects to marginal high school players...its run by Husky players...does not compare well with Stanford camps or WSU camps. Not a whole lot of energy.

The UW PROSPECT camp is not run by players.

It is run by Knutson himself and his 2 coaches. Players are there to help.

Pinocchio used to walk around with a sandwich board saying 'Got Wood For Sale', but this is a little known and, frankly, irrelevant fact.

I've been to all those cities but two (and only Istanbul is off the list if you let me swap Mumbai for New Delhi). Ritzville is my favorite. Was it The Screaming Trees that had a song called Ritzville??

We always fly through Narita then onward over the Kwajalein Atoll -- in fact, that's probably about where Santa is right now!! Merry Christmas!!

As to the UW camp, the last two years, every single one of the drills has been run by players. Matt Lane and DJ Neyens, two catchers ran all the drills for catchers and David Dowling ran the pitching drills. Joe Ross and Ken Knutzen walk around and observe.

The same is true for their camp at Christmas.

Cougar winter camp is January 14-16, summer camp last year was in June...

Stanford camp is better organized, much higher level of competition and instruction with other coaches from other programs D1 to D3 from all over the country working.

Does the WSU camp get coaches in from other regional schools? If so, which ones are usually represented?

Oregon State's Summer camp is usually at the end of July. I would'nt call it a prospect camp but it is good. It has real good instruction for hitting and infielders. I don't know how it is for pitching. They also have coaches helping from George Fox,Concordia, and Willamette University.

My son went to the pitching camp about 4 years ago. I wasn't overly impressed but he was real young so the instruction was a lot different then what the high schoolers will get.

Where does your son go to high school? In another thread you mentioned he signed with a CWS team. Could it be the one I'm thinking of?

I watched the UW PROSPECT camp both days. Donnie Harrell ran the camp. Knutson worked with the pitchers and Ross worked the hitters. Some drills may be done by others but the coaches see everyone. The combine drills done the first 2 hours are watched by Knutson and Ross while Harrell actually runs the 60yd, outfield and infield tests. The 60 is done using laser timing and hand timing. Outfielder throws are also measured with a speed gun. And there was a major league scout on the field watching the tests and taking notes.

Ross works the hitters indoors and measures batted ball speed while hitting. Knutson works with the pitchers and then watches the games concentrating on pitchers while Ross and Harrell concentrate on postion players.

Let's remember that the Stanford camp is great if you want to play on the east coast because if your son doesnt have a 3.8 he isnt going there. The Stanford camp is a excellent recruiting vehicle for east coast schools then west coast. If you really want to play on the east coast then the Stanford camp is a great place to be seen. Most of the coaches that help out are from the east coast not the west coast.

No PAC 10 PROSPECT camp allows other PAC10 coaches to attend. So if you have a preference for a school you should attend their camp. Stanford is the best of the PAC10's to be seen by other non PAC 10 conferences.

JD's Dad, yep you figured out which school. He went to their All Skills Camp last year but unable to attend the pitching camp. Went to an out of state camp last year. He is really looking forward to going up to Corvallis. We are all really excited for baseball to start this year. Should be a fun one.

Does your son play for Doc's? My son and I watch a lot of Rockets and Richey's games. We'll have to keep an eye out for your son when they come up for a tournament.

RE: Huskies camp...all of the instruction the past two years, the hands on actual instruction and drills are by players...the past two years...

As to Stanford camp...there are some east coast coaches there, but so is Fullerton, LB State, Irvine, Nevada Reno and many other West Coast D1 programs...matched competition, lots of talent and formal written evaluations and some video work...the coaches are old school and teach and honor the game and have energy...its a full immersion for four days as opposed to being a day camp...Can't emphasize the talent aspect enough...its easy to get buried if you're timid...its juniors and seniors and I believe there must be a qualified invite from summer or school team...

JD's Dad, yes he has played for Docs for the last three years, this will be four. He pitched in the championship game last year at the Fourth of July tournament.

Im talking about the prospect camp not the summer camp. The OP asked about the prospect camp. THIS IS NOT AN INSTRUCTIONAL CAMP.

The prospect camp is made up of 3 position player teams and for 1.5 days they just play games. Pitchers are rotated in from the pitcher prospect camp to pitch the games. When your team isn't playing you either can hit indoors or sit and watch. They also look at all position players who might also want to pitch and if any show potential are given a chance to pitch. Just in case there is a 2 way player. And yes the coaches are watching the games so the odd team not playing is handled by a player.

Like I said no PAC 10 schools attend Stanford camp. If someone has an interest in a specific PAC 10 school they should attend that schools prospect camp.

OP if you have an interest in UW and you are not on their radar you should attend their prospect camp.

JD's Dad, I am unable to figure out the PM message thing. I did get your message and the camp was great. He really enjoyed it. Has pitched several times this year and hasn't missed a beat. I don't know if the camp has improved since you were there or because he is a high school kid got attention. Said he learned some great stuff from the players.
