Had an interesting day yesterday. U Oregon Baseball had a unique fundraiser for their new baseball stadium: Kevin Costner did a benefit rock concert with his band, proceeds to UO Baseball. Costner is a good friend of Coach Horton's.
We went down early to attend a small reception prior to the show, where we met all the coaches, the AD, and Costner.
My son's favorite all time movie (being a catcher) is Bull Durham. They got to chat for a few minutes. Costner is a very gracious person. He connects very easily with people, and is not at all pretentious or assuming.
He told us that during his college years he took some time off to work on fishing boats out of Oregon, so he lived in Coos Bay and Newport, among other towns, for year or so. So he has an Oregon connection.
Learned a bit about the program's progress: Horton says they have signed 38 guys for the '09 season.
I don't claim to be the sharpest knife in the drawer, so could you share with me how UO has signed 38 players for 2009? I thought there was going to be a cap of 35 players on D1 rosters starting in 2009. Please type slowly so I can follow. thx

oh yeah, the draft, thx (I did disclose I'm slow) any word on the street on how their recruiting for 2010 is going, are they looking at HS Juniors and/or more JC kids? I got to think that the Washington schools are concerned. Especially with all 3 missing tournament play again this year. Personally I think it is good NW baseball to get the UO vs OSU rivalary happening in baseball. I watched the OSU game when they played Georgia at PGE Park, I can only imagine an UO vs OSU game there. thx
