Just wondering if anyone has seen any Oregon coaches watching Washington HS baseball games. They don't have anyone to coach I'd assume they'd be out scouting. I'm a Washington Westsider and I've seen the other NW D1 schools around. Just curious.

They have 21 signings so far, so hard to say if they are going to try for alot more HS players. They are going to need a lot more JC guys to be able to play in the Pac10.
but who knows. you can always drop them a line and find out.

Gotwood, you are really funny, thx, I'm just a curious baseball junkie, don't have a kid involved, Baseballtoday's post kind of hit on what I thought might be happening, UO going JC kids, I just wonder if UO goes south will they turn off the NW kids,

so they only got south of Seattle huh, those Cali boys probably need a map and guide to get north or east of Seattle. wonder if they have had to go tanning since moving to duckville? it will be interesting if they can win over some NW kids, especially if they are bringing in so many JCers

well based on the lack of responses I think it is safe to say the Oregon program will be just like Gonzaga and not recruit the Northwest kids. I hope WSU, UW, OSU, and Portland take advantage of the great talent in the NW.

Old Cob, I definitely think Gonzaga has gone through a change of heart with respect to local recruiting. They have picked up quite a few local players lately. There is a lot of good NW talent out there, but it is scooped up fast!
As for Oregon, because they have to compete in the Pac-10 without having the benefit of early commitments, you are probably seeing them go after a lot of JC-Transfers and such from out-of-state schools. This is probably a temporary situation and undoubtedly will change in a year or two.

Baseball: Cole Ferguson looks like another in a long line of North Salem stars Posted 4/19/2008 2:40 AM PDT on statesmanjournal.com After Friday’s Sprague vs. North Salem baseball game on Friday, I had to ask North Salem coach Chris Lee if his roster was right. The Vikings’ program listed Cole Ferguson as a freshman. Lee assured me it was correct. Ferguson hit his first home run as a high-schooler in the sixth inning on Friday, driving a Jensen Callaway pitch over the fence in left field. Lee said that Ferguson, a first baseman and catcher, is hitting .347 out of the No. 6 spot. That’s the second best average on the team, which is impressive enough. But then Lee listed the boys who have played for him on varsity as freshmen. Get this. Brett Evert (who played for years in the minors), Jed Lowrie (that guy who’s playing for the Boston Red Sox), Erik Ammon (one of Oregon State’s catchers) and Rocky Gale (the University of Portland’s starting catcher) are the only other freshmen to start for Lee in his years at North Salem. Ferguson is in a select group, and you’ll probably hear of the kid many more times after this.

I checked out the UofO website. Could not makes heads or tails out of it, to be honest. Maybe I had a bad link. In any case, what is the status of the program? When do they begin playing in full PAC TEN schedule? Are they allowed more than the standard # of scholarships just starting out?

Jimmy, I am fully aware of BP's situation as his dad is a friend of mine and BP is signed at WSU along with my son. Just perhaps they were there to take a look at the LHP on the West Valley team, Andy Vennum. Good hitter who has come a long way pitching. Heard he verballed or signed with Montana State.. but Oregon could do worse than picking him up. He's very projectible.
