Anyone playing for BBNW's Fall Scout Team (07's, 08's, 09's), please post here. Who's on your team? Level of competition good? Did you win?

Son's first game (E.WA '08) is tommorow against Montana Senior Scout team.. will update.

My son was invited to play on the Oregon/SW Washington team but he plays football and the football program won't let him play another sport during the season.

Would have loved to do it though.

Rob, did your son play in Portland in the PNWC?

If baseball is his first love, try to get him to the Junior Fall Classic or Senior Fall Classic, if possible, with BBNW or another team that's going. I've heard there are TONS of scouts down there and it's THE showcase on the west coast.

Bum:

Yes, he was on the Oregon Metro 09 team. I bragged about it on the "OK toi brag" thread, August 19th!

Son's '08 E.WA team played Montana (DBL-HDR) and lost both. Son started first game, threw 5 scoreless innings. Coach pulled him for another pitcher who gave up a run and we lost
1-0, but son got a "no decision". (I heard a lot of french words from the Montana coach!)

By the way.. did you know they don't have high school ball in Montana? Only Legion. I love Montana--if you've never been there you've gotta see Glacier National Park before global warming wipes it out in 10 years--but that's a downright shame.

We played the E. WA '07 team. We were over-matched as '08's and lost both. We're playing a four-game tournament this weekend in Bozeman, MT against some Utah teams. I'm hoping--unlike the past two weekends--we play some teams our age.

Its good experience to play up sometimes but its no fun to get beat up either. Do you know if there are any 09 teams?

The Oregon 07's are mostly playing junior college teams. I think it's great competition and experience for them. No one cares who wins these games, it's all about showcasing the players abilities and playing up helps do that.

There is no E. WA '09 team.. couldn't get enough players. I'm not sure about the other '09's. gpct8500 is right on. It is a showcase. There'll be time enough for win-loss records in college!

Any BBNW or other NW guys out there? We really need to get this forum jumpstarted!

Son's E.WA '08 team went 1-3 against Utah in Montana. We were seriously shorthanded players.

We're playing in the Tri-Cities this weekend against Junior teams and we'll have a full roster, I believe, so it should be a great tournament. Good luck to anyone out there that's playing this fall!

How is the competition in the league? My son is playing football so couldn't play on the N. Oregon/S. Washington team.

It has varied, since a lot of the teams are missing their football player/middle-of-the-lineup guys, but overall thumbs up. The pitching has been tremendous. Utah had a kid who was legitimately 86-87 or maybe even more. Compared to the fall ball my kid has played for the last several years, this has been a great experience. We play in the Tri-Cities this weekend (4 games), then Pullman the following weekend (3 games), then off to the Jr. Fall Classic in Peoria, where I'm sure there will be a lot of scouts. It's a great venue for the kids who have decided to concentrate on baseball.

6'5" 240 lb lefty with good stuff, velo in the hi 80s, on Hawaii's Peoria team last year -- pitched well, nice kid, good grades......then not a bite from anyone. This is a kid I know who spent a year here in Korea (dad's a ret. Gen). I think he ended up at NM State on football scholly......weird. He's still planning to play ball, but.....just weird how our assumptions about what people are looking for can prove to be wrong sometimes!! It ain't as easy as we sometimes may think.

K...Im new here so please forgive? Smile

Please explain to me these games/tournaments...

they are invite only...u pay to tryout? I assume you pay to play the games/tourneys? and its somehow related to the timberjacks and the top in state players list? seems real political to me?

no hate here...just looking for info..please?

No, it's not political. Jeff McKay and crew do a superb job in compiling their lists, and in running the Baseball Northwest organization. Yes, you must pay to cover your costs, but it is not who you know but how you play.

I agree with Bum, these are great events and if you go in june and august between your junior and senior year I guarantee you will be playing in front of all the area scouts and nearly all of the college and Jc college coaches. You will also be playing against the cream of the northwest players and you can surely test yourself in that competition!
my son went to as many as he could and loved it as lots of players have other commitments in those days so he got to play almost every position on the diamond!

thanks for the replies...

So we mailed off the app for the 042207 tryout...after that...do you recommend another tryout...there's one at BCC on 042907? I believe, because of the area there are more than one team you can theoritically can play for?

And how much is it to play the games if/when you are selected? I mean, its pretty much tourneys by age group?

Thanks
