Can anyone give me feedback on Pastime Tournaments they have attended? They are expanding to the East this year and my son will be attending one of their events. It's my understanding that college coaches will be in attendance, but I'm not sure what to expect.

Depends on the venue. Some do, others do not.

We played in a Best of the Southwest Pastime Tournament June 25-28, at Oklahoma State in Stillwater, OK. It was run very well, lots of good talent and we played at neat fields. I saw coaches from:

Nebraska
OK State
Ranger JC
UT San Antonio
SF Austin
UT Arlington

I was not at every game, so there may have been others!?!

I stopped in for a visit at another Past Time tournament that just concluded this evening at Oklahoma State (July 12). I also thought that it was very well conducted and offered some excellent competition.

I saw a new pitching delivery attempted by one team that looked at a hybridized variation of a crow hop. Luckily the officiating crew did not allow it because it placed the pivot foot about six inches in front of the rubber before the stride foot landed. It cost that particular pitcher about 10 mph in velocity.

On a more human interest note, I had a chance to sit down and talk with the dad of a sophomore player named Michael Gill Jr. I usually sit down the third base line away from the crowd so that I can enjoy and watch the play. This was an occassion that I did not miss the extra company when he came over to where I was at and began a conversation. The young man is a gifted player with a great deal of upside. Michael Sr. was also a pleasant individual and we spent the better part of a game and a half just talking about his son.

Both Gill Jr. and Sr. are class acts and I feel that many others would have to be placed in that same category. It will probably be one of the better tournaments that you will get involved with.

My team played in one in Indiana this month and will play in another at the end of the month. It was very well run, there were rain issues that were handled very well, umpires were generally very good, and most importantly there were at least several college coaches at every game my team played in.
