Headfirst runs the nation’s finest academic showcase camps. Coaches representing the nation's most prestigious colleges and universities will evaluate and instruct. Attending players will have a chance to develop their game while gaining valuable college exposure. This will be the 10th year of the Honor Roll Camp. In 2008, our Honor Roll Camps hosted 750 ballplayers from across the United States and close to 150 college coaches. These programs are can’t miss events for high performing baseball student athletes.

We had anticipated having son attend this showcase this summer. In the meantime he has narrowed his college search to several and has contacted coaches, got responses, etc. Is it worth going on a big "fishing trip" like this if your kid has already got a group of schools on the radar?

His decision is going to come down to specific academic research opportunities along with baseball and geography, so just baseball won't be the big decider for him.

I've been looking at the headstart form on my desk for a couple of weeks and trying to decide... does son need this sort of general exposure at this point? I know more exposure is better... but I'm still not sure based on his very specific criteria.

Quillgirl, if you can afford to have your son attend one of the Headfirst academic showcases, I would heartily recommend it. Based on your post, your son sounds like a strong student with focused academic/baseball goals. He will have the opportunity to be seen by and meet with coaches from many of the top academic schools in the country. In terms of the showcase, it is first-class in every sense, as is laid out in many other posts. Indeed, Headfirst provides much more than "general exposure." Rather, your son may meet a coach and start a dialogue that leads to an opportunity he never expected. And if he doesn't, he still will benefit from one of the best two-day baseball experiences he could ever hope to have. Best of luck to your son and you in the coming months.
