Hey, I have just recently been invited to visit and play in July-August of '08 in the Dominican Republic as part of America's Team International. However, I can't seem to find any info (other than what's on their website) and feedback on the program. I was wondering if this program is legit, would help in college recruiting, or if it's just a complete money maker. So if anybody can provide me with feeback from this program, it would be greatly appreciated. A $3000 pricetag isn't exactly something that I just want to "waste" money on. By the way, their website is www.myamericanteam.com

Thanks

I've never heard of the program, but there is a lot mentioned on this site I haven't heard of before. That shouldn't be taken to mean this program is not legit. On the other hand, if your intent is for help in college recruiting, then I don't think this is the vehicle. After reading the website's FAQs, it looks more like an opportunity to play ball and have fun in a foreign land.

Have fun!

Ya, it says it's more of an ambassador program to help spread the game and learn about it in a different culture, which sounds like a very fun 9 day trip. So thanks for the reply, I was just wondering if anybody had had any experience with it before. BTW the manager of the team is former Major Leaguer, Ken Berry (currently a Minor League Manager). So that makes me feel a little better about the program.

This is the first year of this program. The owner and opperator use to work for another company and started his own thing. It is a for profit company and violates the ncaa rules when it comes to the defination of pay. On there web site they say they have been in this since 2002, but that was not this company, that is when they were working for someone else. Be care of traveling with them.

Upon the mound;

We have traveling Internationally since 1983.
Our Goodwill Series teams play the National or State Teams from Korea, China, Australia and Japan.

Our alumni include 155 Major League players
and over 6,000 college players. This year in Australia, we traveled with 4 teams of players, ages 13-18 and the Beijing State. Each team played 12 games against the State teams.

Our teams are coached by pro scouts and former professional players. Players reside with "host families". Our objective is to have the competitive game of baseball to teach survival.

A few questions to any tour operator.
1. Who is the competition?
2. How many games?
3. Wood or metal bats?
4. Is the tour sanctioned by USA Baseball?
5. Is the tour sanctioned by the Host Country?
6. What are the advantages of this trip for my baseball career?
