I'm going to a showcase next week, it's a rather large showcase, but it's only for MN players. I have no idea how I will stack up to the other kids there.

Three questions:
1. Can we talk to the college coaches there?
2. Can we talk to the pro scouts there?
3. Will the pro scouts talk with athletes that aren't draft potential? What if I just want an honest opinion of my abilities?

PS: This showcase is only kids who have just finished their junior year

hi - good luck this weekend! My son is also attending his first showcase this weekend, so my advice comes from the viewpoint of a dad who hasn't been through this before, but I'll tell you what I will advise my son and then you can see what other advice you get. First, I'm sure that the coaches there would certainly like to talk to you. It is a chance for them to see young men in person and see how they carry themselves, communicate, etc. If you want to meet a coach, look them in the eye and introduce yourself with a firm handshake. Be polite and respectful of whatever advice/information they give you. Think through your questions in advance and think about what your goals and interests in the future are so that you can answer their questions intelligently. Try to find out what schools/organizations are going to be there, and if you have particular interest in any of them, do some research on their websites in advance so that you can ask intelligent questions that will give you the best information on their programs that will help you in making decisions about where your interests may lie. Also...have a good time! Don't put too much pressure on yourself.

Unless the college scouts are being paid to work the camp they are not allowed to talk to players until July 1st. Of course if you are actually on their campus then they can talk to you as much as they want to.

My son was just at an event where there were about 20 schools there. Those guys could not talk to the parents or the players at all.

You can greet the college coaches and say hi but they can't talk to you other than that until July 1st. You are allowed to e-mail them or call them but they can't call you until then either.

There shouldn't be any problem talking to the pro scouts.

The Coaches even after July 1 cannot, technically , talk to you during the showcase until you are done.

They can say HI but most will not speak to you until you are done with the event and that is only if they want to speak to you

What about Div. III coaches? Most of the coaches at my son's clinic/showcase this weekend are working the clinic and will be working directly with the kids (this is a Top96 event). But there are a few, mostly Div. III, who are just attending and observing. They can't talk with the kids? (and what about parents?)
