What age is best to take your son to be evaluated? If he's young (14-15) would it be a good idea to have him evaluated so that he would what he must work on harder, etc. Or is that too young to be worried about something like that. I noticed on the PG website that they do evaluate at that young of an age. Opinions please!

IMO If you can afford it then 14-15 is not too young, it is a good experience and gets him aquainted with the format and helps him not to be nervous later on when it really counts. I took my son when he was that young and it helped him on what areas he really needed to work on.

I have to agree. When my son went to his first PG showcase right after turning 15, he was a nervous wreck! He did fine, but more importantly, now that he's to the point where it's really counting, he's not nervous and knows what to expect.

I agree with everyone.

The sooner you can start playing against the "big boys" the better.

You are either ready to play at that level; or, you learn what you need to improve to compete with the "big boys".

Go to a PG event as soon as you can. Can only be a positive experience.

Thanks everyone. This is my first time going through this and I really appreciate your insight. My son used to freak just at the mention of a try-out but now he's beginning to understand it's just a part of live. I can certainly see that going through this experience now will "toughen him up" for later when it really counts. Did you find much change in scores from earlier PG evaluations and later on?
