Am I correct in observing that the Showcase "season" pretty much ends in August? Fall seems to be the time for Fall leagues and tournaments rather than Showcases.

Question. We've got a limited budget (like most). We are planning to hit College Select in a few weeks. Should we look at hitting another showcase (there's one left that we could attend) or focus on getting aligned for Fall baseball ? Perhaps the better question is where is the better exposure. I saw another thread that seemed to indicate that exposure was better at showcases?... but I don't think there was a clear winner.

Our High School team is joining a new wood bat league (15 teams) for the fall. Not sure what exposure will be there, but certainly a good opportunity to improve playing.

You did not indicate your son's age.
Smart thing to do is while watching your budget, try to get in a good combination of everything, spread out over a few years.
We left Fall ball for tournaments and local games.
Junior year (in january) did one showcase before the HS season began.

Oh, we're running a little late. Son is an '06 grad.

We hit one showcase last year, but the games he played in were not that well attended... lots of rain and mud <grin> Plus, most coaches seemed to be over at the "other" field that seemed to have more of the rising seniors.

In June of this year we went to 1 college camp and 1 specialty camp. There were a handful of coaches at these camps. Got some very nice comments at the camp from coaches from other schools, but no follow-up was received after July 1. Then we got hurt and had to cancel out on other plans. Now, we're in pretty good shape again, looking forward to College Select. But, we haven't played in 2 months. We'll have lots of playing time in the fall, but not sure about the exposure factor.

I should add that HS coach was advising us to go to one Showcase and play summer ball... more than that would probably be a waste.

I'm sure you will get plenty of advice here.

Fall will be critical for you. I would strongly recommend playing for a good showcase team that travels in the PA/MD/NJ area.

Not knowing your son's potential and what level he has the ability to play I can only make general statements.

In the Fall look for a team that has a history of attending showcase tournaments and a coaching staff with relationships with local college coaches. If there are schools that your son is interested in you need to let them know what events he will be playing in.

You mention that some coaches had given out some compliments but no follow up was received after July 1. YOUR SON NEEDS TO FOLLOW-UP, he can contact the coaches by e-mail or phone (I would probably e-mail as first contact, and re-introduce myself and let them know of my interest in their program).

There is a lot of information on the site and a number of good "old-timers" who can give you better info than I can but this is a start.

Not to panic you but you are running more than a little late... if he truly wants to play at the next level and has the ability he needs to get moving yesterday.

Good Luck

Novice Dad,
Good advice!
Senior summer is of the utmost importance, which you've missed. All the more important reason to look for a really good fall team, enroll in camps during winter break.

I am sure TR will give you good advice if asked.

These fall on-campus showcases: who benefits the most from them, juniors or seniors? Seems a little late for a lot of seniors at many of the programs (who are already getting early commitments), yet at the same time, just a tad early for the Juniors. And how many college coaches really attend these fall showcases? A couple from the host staff? Anyone else?
