Yes your stock could fall if you had a bad showing and it could rise if you had a good showing. My son passed on pre-draft showcases because we felt comfortable with his projected round.

You cannot any ttend any event like this thinking you might have a poor showing-=-the player needs to go in with a confident attitude

No sense in sugar coating. The event mentioned is the biggest one of it's kind. Most MLB clubs will have their Scouting Director, Crosscheckers and there have been GMs and other front office people attend.

Fungo has hit the nail. Players have gone up significantly with a good showing and others have dropped a lot because of a bad showing. In many cases this is the last look at a player by the decision makers.

I've strongly recommended to a few people in the past... "If your son looks like a sure shot to go in the first round, you probably should not attend this event" In fact, I told this to Manny Upton and to Eddie Kazmir in the past!

As "Fungo" said, if a player is comfortable with his projected position, there is no need to attend.

However, projected positions in drafts is another subject all together. Each year we talk to a lot of people who tell us their son is projected to go first round or has been told by so and so that they have him in round 5 to 7.

If you added up the number of those who are thinking they will be drafted in the first couple rounds and compare that to the actual number of slots available... You understand that there is a lot of confused people entering into the draft. Lots of disappointment after the draft!

One more thing... There can be a big advantage in attending this particular Predraft. If you are a highly thought of player, chances are you will be invited to a large number of private predraft workouts. Most of the clubs scouting departments hold these for top draft prospects. It's pretty hard to attend them all and almost impossible if you're a pitcher. So the advantage is being seen by all the decision makers at one time rather than traveling around the country continually. Of course there is the added advantage or disadvantage (as may be) of everyone seeing the same thing. If it's a good showing, everyone knows that everyone has seen it. On the other hand, if it's a bad showing, everyone knows that every other club has seen it.

Definetly not an event for everyone.

Jerry:

Can you please supply details on this event? ...when? ...where? (Couldn't find it on your website.)

My son has been told he's in the system, whatever that means. Approx. 10 questionaires to date, all before, or coincident with, the start of our HS season, but no words of encouragement or contact in the past 2 months with anyone other than agent/advisor types. Is this an indication that he's fallen out of favor? Was he just getting lip service before? ...possibly put down the wrong answers on his Q responses? Or is this simply a silent period for those who are not top-ten-round picks?

You speak of anticipated round in the draft. We have absolutely No Idea!

By the way...son is a catcher, R/R, 6'0", 195, 1.83-1.94 pop, 7.23 60, .340-.400 avg., very solid defensively. For whatever reason, he has never attended a PG event, (...he did Team One South and Team One National...) though many on his HS team have and I understand your outfit to be first rate. Would appreciate whatever insights, details or advice you could offer.
