Hey guys,
My parents and I are getting some plans together about more showcasing this year, but they are mainly focused on college camps instead of showcases. I want to do more showcases because of the exposure and competition. Is this alright? thanks for the help.

Wally -
We'll be glad to provide you and your parents with information. Both college camps and showcases can be beneficial. What grade are you now & what position do you play? Have you attended a showcase or id camp before? What part of the country are you interested in going to college? This information will help the board members point you in the right direction for what you are looking for. Smile

well right now i am a sophomore, class of '06...I pitch and I play 1st base. Last year I did a showcase in Indianapolis. I am interested in going to college around the midwest, unless something bigger came up. I posted because I want to do those ID Camps and showcases, but I am not sure which to do first.

Wally:

I think one of the PG ID camps in or around Indy would be a good investment at this point. It will let you start to see where you fit in, what you need to work on, and, if you do well, set you up for some of the bigger events going forward.

One thing I'd recommend to a young player, perhaps even before spending money on showcasing, would be to try a major league team's one-day camp.

You learn about format, because they're all pretty similar, and you get used to performing specific skills on command. And if you perform really well, it can start you on your way to bigger, better things.

Showcasing is important for most players and it can be pretty costly. I'd see if I could incorporate a few free camps into the plan, if possible.

Wally.....

My son is also an 06, and last year we thought that it was a good start by doing what "OldVaman" suggested, participating in a MLB team evaluation camp.

The Chicago White Sox have what they call Prospect Evaluation Games. You would sign-up for an evaluation camp were they hold a mini try-out (60 yd. dash, fielding, hitting, pitching, pop times - all dependent upon what your position you play). The cost this year to sign-up is $30.00, and will be held at different locations and on different dates, Lewis Univ.-June 14th, College of DuPage-June 15th, Northern Illinois Univ.-June 16th, St. Viator-June 22nd, St.Xavier-June 23rd, Illinois State Univ.-June 24th, Valpo Univ.-June 29th.

After that, they will select approximately 300 players to play in August at the Village Green Field Complex in Glen Ellyn near College of DuPage. The cost for this I believe is an additional $125.00. You'll play about 4, 7 inning games. The White Sox phone number is 630-324-8221.

This is a good way to get your "feet wet." BUT, since Perfect Game has established their ID Showcases, you can't go wrong there either.

Also, if there is a particular college that you are interested in, attend one of their camps. It's a great way to participate in a quality environment at a potential school. The camp format is very similar to a regular type showcase.

yeah that sounds good, I am signing up for some college camps, as well as some prospect evaluations that could get me invites to some bigger ones(PG, Area Code, Team One, etc.) Thanks for the advice guys, if I have any other questions, I will ask. Thanks again.

What exactly is an ID showcase and how does it differ from a regular PG showcase?

I see some are indoor and at facilities i know are too small to hit a fly ball in or run a 60?

Help Confused
