Do you have to have a High School Coaches recomendation to participate in a showcase event? The applications always aske for the high school coaches contact information. My sons highschool coach told us he doesn't play sophomores on varsity no matter what the talent because he has 22 juniors and seniors. Although it has been proven in the past if your pockets are deep enough your kid will play varsity regardless of talent/ability. My son has always played on select tournament teams at the highest level we have never had to find a team the coaches always call and ask him to play for them so I am pretty sure he has the talent it takes.

I can only answer from our experience. Ous sons have done several Showcase Camps with recommendation from the Highschool Coach. I know that there are some teams and camps too that you have to have a recommendation for them. Our son who is a Junior gets recommendations from his Summer Coach. Maybe your son can do the same. I can tell yu this his summer team would crush the Highschool team so it holds more weight in our eyes anyway. On top of that our Highschool Coach does not really like to recommend kids for things. Not one of the Seniors from what I understand was able to get any help with college from him. He says it puts hi reputation on the line. So when our son is a Senior he knows that he will have to go elsewhere for the recommendation. He does worry how that will hurt his chances with college but there is nothing that we can do about it. He is luck in that his summer Coach does everything he can for his starters to get them into college. Either by Showcasing them or by having certain Scouts come to look at them. We saw it pay off this year for his Seniors so we feel there is hope there.

So anyway contact the other Coaches and see if they will be willing to help. If they are calling your son to play he has a good reputation for being a good player I bet they will help you out. Good Luck.

Use the summer coaches recomendation. My son had switched HS at the start of Jr year. When we were sending back college questionaires, showcase info, we could not use his HS coach since he had never seen him play. We used the summer coach and previous HS coach.

As a summer coach, I send in a lot of the paper work for showcase events, evaluations etc and college recomendations for my players. I see them for 50+ games and as some of these players have not played their Jr HS season yet, the HS coach is kinda at a disadvantage.

BEFORE you sign up for any showcase, you should talk with your high school coach and be certain (get it in writing from him) that your participation at the showcase doesn't violate any high school rules; and, in his opinion, your participation does not violate any State High School Association rules.
