My son has been invited to participate on a team and attend this tournament July 15-20 at East Cobb. He is a 6'2" upcoming junior LHP. While we are proud he has been asked, we would like other's opinions as to the benefits vs. cost. Who are the normal scout attendees? He has a favorite college (who has shown early interest) and attended their camp last year and will go again this summer, but would this event offer him more possible options in the event of coaching changes, etc., before he graduates?

jkkmom,

Perfect Game events have been discussed often in our forums, for good reason...because they run events that attract the top players in the nation, and those top players attract the scouts and college coaches, which attracts even more of the top players...it's kind of a circular thing!

The WWBA tourneys are among the top summer baseball events, and many of our members' sons have attended. Maybe some will comment on their experiences. If your son has the ability to play in college or beyond, it would definitely be a good idea for him to have "more options" as you mentioned. The fact that his favorite college is showing early interest is a very good thing! But that interest does not always end up turning into an offer - or sometimes the offer is not the right fit. So it's always good to have more options rather than fewer.

Best wishes to your son!

Julie

jkkmom,

I have been to many PG events in Ft.Myers and East Cobb - including several of the underclassmen events over the last 6 years - with both of my boys.

They are events that you should try to make if at all possible.

Your son will play against incredible young talent every day - and it just doesnt get any better than that.

Good luck!

Don't worry about whether scouts will see your son (though a 6'2" Junior Lefty will get some interest)--just let him go and play. You will not find a better baseball tournament for 16U anywhere. Your son will get to play against some of the best teams in the country at some very nice facilities. It will open his eyes in two ways: (1) it will reveal to him just how deep and broad the competition is once you step out into an arena that brings in national talent; and, (2) it will reveal to him that all of these kids are just that--kids--and that if he works his tail off and really dedicates himself to the game, he can compete with them. WWBA is a revelation.

LOVE this tourney-one of our favorites. It's huge, and sometimes frustrating to navigate because it's played on so many different fields around Cobb, but I can't imagine missing it if you've been invited. While there is exposure for some players, the big thing is seeing the talent from across the country, playing kids you'd never have the opportunity to play otherwise, meeting other baseball families from all around the USA, and seeing some FAB ball being played. We'll be there again in the 16U group, so maybe we'll see your son! Don't miss it.

I was glad to see this post. My son too has been invited to play in the 16U group for this tournament. He will have only just turned 15 the week before the tournament so I'm a little nervous, excited, tenative about it all for him. I'm glad to hear it is what I was told it was.

My son played last year as a 15. Great competition and the fields are all first class. As stated above there is some travel invovled around East Cobb. If you are looking for scouts getting into the main complex is key.

My son played last year on a 18u team as a 15 yr old. He absolutely loved it. Unfortunately I was unable to attend last year. He is going back this year on a 16u team and has requested I not miss it this time. He said the competition of the players and the facilities where he played were fantastic and is really looking forward to going back this year.
