This a a sad and gigantic loss. Doug would sometimes PM me to say he agreed with something I might have posted or ask a question rather than open a can of worms by posting. I took it as a big compliment always, that someone like him would take the time to do something like that.

deemax, I'm so very sorry. All I can do is pay Doug the ultimate baseball compliment!

RIP Doug, You were very good for the game of baseball.

Probably more important though, is the way Doug felt about his family!

We will all feel the loss and Doug's family has my very deepest sympathy. God, please take good care of this great man!

Like many other members who have posted previously I didn't know your father, but from the posts of those who did know him it is abundantly clear that your father was a great, knowledgeable, caring, and loving man. He was devoted to baseball, this website, his family, and helping others.

Your father's legacy is secure deemax. Be very proud of him. Your family was blessed to have him as a father. We were blessed to have him as part of our HSBBW family as well.

Thank you for letting us know.

Stunned....Saddened...and saying goodbye with great reverence..

IMO...The best measure of the man is the human results he leaves behind...

...Didn't know bbscout personally but his posts always commanded my attention, respect, and perhaps more importantly always carried a personal touch...

...charcateristics that I am certain will continue with his following generations...

...and with those thousands he touched here...

...The best measure of the man...

Please forgive me for continually posting in this thread but keep trying to think of ways to honor him. Here is one from Shakespeare's Hamlet that I always feel should be said when a great person has passed:

He was a man, take him for all in all,
I shall not look upon his like again.

Deemax;

My friend from Seattle received the news from Scott Ramsey.

Doug McMillan was a great friend and our AC Manager for the SF giants team. I am in tears as I write this e-mail.

Doug in 1996 selected several players from Oakland who did not have ability to travel to Long Beach. With the coordinated efforts of the
Northern California Scouts Association, we assisted in bus fare from Oakland to Long Beach.

Doug is story of a "hero" to the game. Doug recognize Nick Johnson, Jimmy Rollins and many others to our programs.

Deemax -

This is very sad news. Your Dad was respected by many of us on the HSBBW for his love of baseball and the wonderful advice that he gave so freely. He often talked about his family and was very proud of you all. Our family here will miss him very much. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Such a great loss to the Baseball Community, I truly am sorry for your loss.

He was one of the very first people I met on this site when I joined, him and Fungo made me feel very welcomed here. He was always one to answer any question I had over the years that I talked to him.

My deepest condolences to you and your family.

I'm so sorry.

He was a great asset to this board, much less the game.

He was also a classy guy on this board, and I'm sure in life as well.

Deemax,

Your dad was on the ride a couple of cars ahead of my son and I.

He'd been riding it for years, though.

This was my first.

I was really looking forward to standing up, reaching into the car ahead, and giving him a huge high five......................

So many times people come into and out of our lives, leaving nothing behind.

Bbscout was the exception. He left his fingerprints on the website and on our hearts.

With a heavy heart I type. Doug McMillan will be sorely missed and Greatly Remembered.

"The value of a man should be seen in what he gives and not in what he is able to receive.” Albert Einstein

Doug gave, and will continue to give.

Thanks Doug.
