Congrats also to Bullwinkle and Stonewallsmom 'cause UCI is out looking for more ants to eat in the next round. I'll bet ktcosmos is feeling super 'cause the U of A Wildcats blew through the Michigan Regional, and txbbfan is cookin up something nice to go with Rice, movin on to the next round.

Also, justbaseball and theEH are looking at another great day of fun in the sun at Sunken Diamond.

I couldn't go to Michigan (grrr...), but
my 77-yr.- old young mom drove from Chicagoland to watch her grandson and his Wildcats win in Ann Arbor. She's never been much of a sports fan, so I couldn't believe she did that.

It was a thrill to get her phone calls every day. She's a total baseball addict now!

Boy, another year of NCAA playoff baseball, and another year that teams in the west got ripped off by the NCAA. Oregon State, despite being two time defending champs, doesn't get in while some below .500 teams from back east do. Yeah, I realize that they won their league tournaments, but they were two and gone as we'd all predict.

Then, the NCAA leaves out deserving teams in Santa Clara and UC Santa Barbara, but gives the SEC 9 teams. Of course, 7 of those SEC teams are now sitting at home, so why did the SEC deserve so many bids? And, how about that Long Beach regional that guaranteed that three west teams would be eliminated right away?

Don't even get me started about Arkansas at the Stanford regional. Talk about totally outclassed on the field! Why does the #9 team int he SEC get in, while the #5 Pac-10 team not, especially when they're defending champs? Talk about an injustice!

Hey, we're on to the Super Regionals where it is designed to guarantee that many western teams can't go to Omaha, since they are competing against other teams from the west. Teams like UC Irvine and Arizona kicked butt back in their eastern regionals, and more western teams would have as well if they weren't all out here playing each other.

The problem with the road to Omaha is that if only the best teams got there, more than half of them would be from the west, and I guess the NCAA can't have that. #1 conference, it sure ISN'T the SEC. Go look at the Pac-10 or Big West, you'll find them both better.

From now on, they should pick their 64 teams, with the defending champs getting an automatic bid, and should take teams more or less equally from all quadrants of the country. Sure, weight it more heavily to the south and west as there are more quality teams out this way, but at least let the regions compete against each other, rather than within their own geographic region. But then, we might have six CWS teams from the west if we did that?!

I am not going to get into the E vs W debate or why who gets in or who doesn't. And I also don't understand the SEC with 9.

I would hope that the committee sits down and takes record, RPI, automatic, first and then for at large bids factors more in for the human factor, which of these region teams could actually give us a good showing at a regional. Sometimes it seems like they will put in an at large bid just so that the number one seeded regional teams can advance.

Of the 16 teams, 6 are from the west coast (I consider Arizona west coast).

There weren't too many upsets in regionals, the 8 top seeds remainded the 8 and some had to work for it. That is the whole idea behind it all. While we all get upset our favorites were left out, I do beleive that there is a reason.

Defending champions should not get an auto bid, IMO. That would mean they don't have to work that hard for post season, save on pitching, easy schedule etc.

There are a lot of good stories this year. Standford in who has had some down years, Irvine going through a major coaching change, little Coastal Carolina beating up on the larger programs. FSU and Witchita playing against each other, both with coaches with top wins in college baseball.

I'll get into the E/W debate...sort of...just for fun.

Oregon State got hosed. I saw them play and then I saw Arkansas play in our region. Not even close (sorry, not trying to pick on them...I think the Razorbacks are GREAT for college baseball...but they shouldn't have been in).

OSU: 2-time defending champ who played a hard schedule and have done wonders for wet/cold weather college baseball...and they don't get in. Makes no sense at all to me.

Some others that should have been in IMO...Santa Clara, UC-Santa Barbara. Arizona should have been able to play at home...absolutely the best pitching staff I saw all year by a notable margin.

Is it fair for me to deduce that you believe historical importance should be a factor in determining a specific years inclusion into the postseason?

In a world where participants only get 4 years to compete, I would find that objectionable were it part of the selection criteria. I do believe some of it happens, but don't think it should. JMHO

No, not really CPLZ. I saw them play 3 games. Although they are definitely not one of my favorite teams...it wasn't hard to see that they are MUCH better than other teams who made it.

NW teams have been shunned too many times in the past. Tim Lincecum's very good Washington team was kept out 2 years in a row when they were easily better than other teams invited. Even sending them back East would have given you all a treat you would have truly enjoyed.

But, getting to one of your very favorite topics...if the NCAA was trying to help wet/cold weather teams in the new schedule format...then why not give OSU the benefit of the doubt if they really had any doubt?

As for the NCAA history on estimating OSU's ability...last year they were a 3-seed sent back East and expected to exit early. Anyone out here knew they were much better than that last year too.

You mean South of the Mason Dixon don't you? It's called the gooood 'O' boy network and they control the NCAA.

The schools West of the Missouri rule and the CWS outcome shows by the results.

I never saw OSU play, but I strongly beleive CaDad's idea of winning the CWS shouldn't get you an auto berth.

I still can't figure out Arkansas and Bama getting in, and I don't think many do either.

Other than following my own son's play the game - this has been one of the best, if not the best, experience I have had in a long time.

From Erik Davis - to the Bortinator - from Marcos Cabral - to the Baby Bullwinkle - and every other player in between - this has just been the best.

Congrats to the teams now playing in the super's.
It was an awesome Regional at Stanford.
The weather the setting and the atmosphere was absolutely perfect for a baseball regional.
The better team won are regional, and hope they go all the way to Omaha.

I still would of liked to get out of the west coast during the regionals sometime like UC Irvine or Arizona this year.
